Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

and we'll get the voting under way.
The voting will continue until Monday, April 4 at midnight.
Just a small reminder that no-one can vote for his/her own entry, but that's about the only relevant rule.
But...PLEASE DO VOTE, it doesn't take vvery much time or effort and the more votes received helps to obtain a more representative poll a reality, rather than just a hoped-for result.

For those of you who haven't yet voted, but intend to, please 'get yer skates on' and send in your votes to the Competition email address:
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
It would be nice - for those who took the time and effort to submit entries - to be rewarded by a poll result more representative of the Forum membership than just the same double handful of 'usual suspects'.
So, please vote, it really is as simple as sending a simple email.

#20 so congratulations go to Sukahn
Second is #3 from Homer
Third place goes to #21, again from Sukahn:
but since it's only one prize awarded to each entrant Third prize drops to the Fourth-placed picture:
#8 submitted by Q_Comets.
Fifth position is shared by two entries, #18
& #25.
Seventh is #7, Eighth (again a tie) #10 & #17 and, bringing up the rear, is #15 & #22 in joint tenth place.
Well done to the winners and many many thanks to all who took the time and effort o
to both enter and cast votes.
I'll leave it to the three prizewinners to discuss among themselves who would like which of the prizes offered for this month's round (in chronological order) - The little hang-on filter from myself, the Almond leaves from Ger and the water containers from Homer.
Watch out for the April Round starting shortly - some worthwhile prizes on offer again for this month.

Fourth place is Jeff. He gets the choice as the other tied entry-submitter only enters for the fun of it and is happy to stand aside so, Jeff, you go into the prize pot, well done.

Ger is in the Northside and the hang-on filter I have offered could either be brought to Dublin on my next trip East, or if it's needed more quickly I can post it to whoever chooses it (always assuming someone will want it).

By way of a footnote, Homer and Robert are on holiday at the moment, but they will be able to redeem their prizes upon their return.
Ger is in the Northside and the hang-on filter I have offered could either be brought to Dublin on my next trip East, or if it's needed more quickly I can post it to whoever chooses it (always assuming someone will want it).
John.
Apologies time...
I promised to supply a pic of the filter I was offering - It totally slipped my mind - sorry!
But here is a youtube video of one 'in action', hardly suitable for larger-sized tanks, but ideal for a nano-sized one.
It's brand new - still in the box.

As I have a SA tank (kinda obvious) I would appreciate the katappa leaves. I'll PM Ger if it is ok with the other very worthy winners.
I think that, in the interests of fairness, we should let Homer (whose picture was voted in second place, after all) have the first pick, Q.
He has been away on holiday but is, I think, back now so - Homer, please speak up, which offering would you like to choose?

Kev.
Well, there's the Almond leaves from Ger, the little hang-on filter from some old lad and some 5l water containers from someone called Homer.

So, that leaves the leaves (which I know Q was fancying) and the 5l containers, which should have been Jeff's option - but he has already expressed the fact that he wishes his prize to go forward to April's round.
Would you like me to post the filter on, or will you wait for a delivery 'in person', probably on Saturday week?
