Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

That isn't the case, actually - there have to be some amendments to the Competition Rules as there have been more cases of cheating going on.
I actually have the next prize already pledged.

It really grieves me to say this but I'll say it anyway - if everyone of the Forum regulars is towing the line yet someone chooses to cheat (and I'm not talking about the entry we had to bar previously here) that person cheating has a really unfair advantage which makes it doubly unfair on the rest of you (too many 'unfairs' there) so leave it with us for a few days to make the amendments then we'll have another try...

I've missed the Competition myself - even though the most votes any entry of mine has gained was the stunningly-huge amount of three!!!

Replied by stretnik (stretnik) on topic Re:Monthly Photo Competitions - Hall of Fame
Cheating, cowardly, it's the most despicable .

John, surly the person chosen as the winner must provide proof of some sort?

My fish never stay still long enough for it to be snapped!! I agree, cheating must be stopped, ruins it for everyone else. John would I be right in saying its newer members who tend to do sort of thing,or has their been experiences of older members?

was thinking a rule that only forum members for over 3 months could enter the compititon..
but suppose thats not fair on newer members just cause of a few stupid people who cheated

"If yer not cheatin, yer not tryin" One of the many mottos we have here in work ;). Most of which are unsuitable to put on here. Seriously though, wouldnt it be very difficult to sus if someone was taking the p**s. I mean, wouldnt it involve checking for said image on not only these boards but others too? Also, is it possible to tell with certainty if an image has been "edited"? I believe eveyone should have a fair crack of the whip but it just seems to me that it would be very difficult to police. That said, I know very little about the methods used to scrutinise images...

would delivery of the prize be an option, and view the fish before hand, maybe nominate a person in the area to go around and take a snap of the fish wit a dated camera
