Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

anyway i have a 7ft x 2ft x 2ft 800L tank with fluval fx5 filter on it
at the moment the tank contains
2 Large tiger oscars
6 1 year old irish jack dempseys
3 twin spot qouramis
2 large plecos
1 blue lobster
1 cori dora
1 xxl silver dollar
1 green sevrum pretty big
i know the selection of fish is a bit of a disaster and i wont even go into some of the fish ive had in the tank that dissapeared on me i would onluy be slated lol
i bought this tank just over a year ago and have easily lost about 500 quids worth a fish in it ,i lost interest for a while and im lookin to get it back up to standard so im lookin for some advice on what to do with it im on a limited budget as im on the dole at the minute
there is 2 6ft lenghts of bogwood in it at the min with black stones im willing to change ecerything to make it work and become a nice tank .the lighting situation isnt great either i hadn the money for proper lights so at the mo i have 2 x 5ft florescent fittings sitting on the top of the tank i know its not ideal ,im a sparks myself and was wondering was there any diy lighting rigs i could hook up on the cheap
Thanks in advance
Deco

your tank has got great potential,
here is what i would do,
make up some sort of cover over your lights, you seem to be losing alot of light up the wall..

put a solid black background on the tank,(paint prob be the cheapest)
replace the stones with sand, you can get from garden centre for cheap enough.
you dont need to add much in the way of decoration, a few rocks maybe, not to many, keep it fairly basic
this will show off your fish better, and can look really cool,
am on the dole myself so unfortunetly am speaking from experiance

as for fish "dont add anymore"

ps dont listen to these guys telling you to get into african cichlids!!

not gonna say anything about the fist part of your post

trust me on the black background and sand, i have it done in my SA cichlid tank and it is the business..
if you were to just keep the jacks, plecos and severum, and get rid of the rest, maybe would be best,
all the best with whatever you decide.
