Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all.

Hi all. was created by m4r10 (m4r10)
After lurking for a while, I thought of introducing my tank and fish to you all.

I have a tropical Juwel Vision 180 and the current stock is: Albino Cory, Amano shrimp, Kuhli Loach, Siamese Algae Eater, Zebra and Yoyo Loach, Black Molly, Swordtail (and about 11 fry that the wife picked from the tank, she could't stand the thought of them being eaten), Black and neon Tetra.

If the fish are healty and had no problems with them, there's a different story regarding the plants. Over the years I tried to grow plants, but without success. Anyway, I'm in the process of experimenting with different parameters in the hope of better success with the plants.

Welcome to the forum. Your tank looks very nice. Maybe you want to tell us more about what happens your plants (do they die, go brown, get eaten ...). This way, people might be able to advise you better.

Valerie :)

Tank looks great, Id be very interested on what substrate you use as in do you use a fertile sublayer?. Ill be setting up 260L over christmas and following the walstad method ( with a few differences to suit me) I will be keeping a journal ( with pics ). I have a 70L running for a couple of weeks using this method and Ive gotten some very nice growth so far.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

@valerie: I already posted on another topic as the OP has the same problems with his plants - some kind of green algae covering the leafs until the plants stop growing (link here ).

@lawrenceog: no substrate in the tank, just some regular gravel bought from the pet shop. I was thinking about setting a Walstad tank myself, but first I have to buy a smaller tank, pending approval from the boss  .

HaHa I got approval already for my new tank ;) My initial Walstad (experimental)70L tank 1.5 weeks up and running is giving good growth on my plants so good that i will need to prune some soon, no algea & parameters are all good so far. The Fish seem to really like the new set up too.

I am just getting the stuff ready for the set up of the 260L :P

Thanks again guys!

@lawrenceog: I'm in the middle of negotiations for another Juwel 180l. If I close the deal, I'm going to set up a Walstad tank, so fingers crossed for that!

Thanks.

Yes, they are breading alright and as I lost interest in breeding them, I regarded the fry as live food for the other fish, but the wife had other ideas this time and I really can't argue with her
