Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hello all
ive been keeping fish for two years now and have recently changed from a community tank to cichlids.
I currently have an aqualantis bow front tank 40"x24"x20" but am hoping to go bigger next year(possibly a juwel vision 450).I always appreciate good advice and tips :)

Welcome along pal. You'll get plenty of advice here.
There's a lot of people on here more than qualified to give you Cichlid advice (I aint one of them :-) )

Enjoy, and feel free to share your experiences too (and pics)

Hi and welcome,
as for Juwel vision I can't fault this aquarium except I'm not a big fan of bow aquas..
if you would consider ordinary shape, I would consider clearseal aquariums. I don't have one, but have seen a couple of them and they look top class for I think is very good value.

hows it going mate?-just new to the forum meself,if your keeping african cichlids like moori(dolphins)id recomend upgrading to the biggest possible tank you can afford-it will save you a few bob in the long run because they grow big so fast after a year or so the vision 450 wont look so big, im on my fourth tank which is a 5x2x2 and im upgrading to a 7x2x2.its addictive man!!!ha

I have a Clearseal Tank and love the look but 2 things before you consider getting one, and for Cichlids, particularly Africans, Malawi and Tanganyikan, you won't find better, First, make sure the External you buy has sufficient power to get over the considerable height of these Tanks, if you get one just within the recommended power for the volume, you will be sorry because the output will be less than you would like, bigger IS definitely better. Second, Clearseal had a bad reputation for having problems with water soaking into the Hood causing it to swell considerably, the newer ones have been altered to remedy this but unfortunately, I found some unsealed spots on the inside of the hood that I caught in time and sealed myself to stop any damage so check the interior before putting it on the Tank and overseal where Clearseal have already sealed, do that and you'll be a very happy clearseal owner.

Kev.
