Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hello !!! was created by Lucian (Lucian)
Hi,

i'm Lucian and i live around Dublin. I curently have 2 tanks (500 and 180 Litres). Just emptyed the small one last week as i am planing to get into the marine wonders. The big one is curently stocked with : 1 Golden Severum, 3 african ciclids ( left over from two breeding pairs that i had), 1 pleco gibiceps ( or sailfin), 2 spotted doraids, 4 ancistrus, 2 small pleco's (not sure about theyre name but think they are spiny plecos), 4 clown loaches.
As i mentioned above, i'm at the stage now where i'm tryn to find out which is the best filter, uv or not and the likes for my future marine setup.

Any questions, feel free to ask.
Regards.

Welcome along Lucian, its best if you can get a sump for your future marine set-up. To UV or not depends also on several other factors but safe to say you dont need to worry about that for a while yet as it will be some time (the cycling) before you introduce any fishies.

All the best!

Welcome Lucian.
Are you going to keep tropical marines or ones floating around the irish coast and what sort of fish.

would definitely agree with andrew about a sump is always ideal as it will give you more options.

GOOD LUCK

hi, thanks for the reply. the only thing is i only have space for a small sump, like 35 litres of water, so not sure if it's goin to work out for me. i already have the uv from my previous setup, an 18 watts JBL. and i have a Eheim external filter which i was goin to use, but not sure anymore after i read a few pages around here. it's a good place to get documented.
as for the fish, think i'll take it slow for a start, was recomended in Seahorse a few invertabrates and after that clowns and cardinals. the girlfriend wants a lionfish, but think its a long way till i can get one (want more fishtanks, need to keep her happy too :)) )

Regards.
