Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Aloha

Hi all, newbie here and really enjoying the forum, very informative. To introduce myself, I'm Colm, 32, and really eager to get into the marine side of things. I've gone a bit obsessed to be honest! Scouring the Internet and forums daily learning as much as I can, and as I learned more I've realised it's a) not easy b) expensive c) time consuming and d) something I absolutely want to do! My passion is diving and snorkelling and I've been blessed with opportunities to dive in the Red Sea, Thailand, Malaysia, the Carribean, the Great Barrier, New Zealand, and a host of other places, even the west of Ireland! Would love to have a piece of that world in my own home. Have been to the usual stores several times these last few weeks and it's only made me more eager to start.
Have had freshwater in the past but small scale so I'm pretty much a total newbie. Still, I'm prepared for the cycling, the patience required, the cost and yes, the things that may go wrong.
Eager to get started really and hoping I find the right set up soon, and when I do I'm
Sure I will have lots of silly questions that u guys can point me in the right direction!

Thanks!

You have a lot in common with Dave, aka, Acara, he's dived a lot and might have some advice, if not on Marine Fish, definitely on Travel inc Diving etc.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! Great forum. Yeah really excited about getting into Marines, with bambino number two on the way this is the closest i'll get to diving for a while I'd say! Sure I have a mask, will dip my head in to the tank now and again :)
Still looking for the marine tank but sure its only a matter of time.

I'd be really happy with a 250'sh litre tank, clean and tbh 4-5 fish should do it with some soft and hard corals. Would love a mandarin but i think that will be a while away, will stick with Clowns and the like at the start. For now, agree that good equip is key to keep all the levels the way they should be. To get there, I know I'm going to have it take my time, but even the cycling is interesting for me so patience not a prob!

When I do get setup will post pics etc. As for the no silly questions on this forum - I'm sure I'll put that statement to the test

Venturing to the shops again today to drool, but have realised 2nd hand is more in my budget.

Enjoying the forum, thanks again
