Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi there guys,

My name is Pedro i live in city center and new to this fórum and fish keeping in ireland, i had a good few experiences back at home (Portugal) i've breed zebra chilids, yellow labs, kribensis and corydoras, now in ireland and arround 10 years later i've found the pation again :)
i'm trying at the moment to breed Bettas (Siamese Fighters), i'm finding very dificult to find these fish here in ireland, so I would apreciate a huge help from the most experienced breeders and wise members here.
I will post pictures as soon i have everything ready.
At the moment I have a CT (Crown Tail) male, a super delta female, a halfmoon female and another one I found in blanchardstown shop (PetStop) witch I think it's a Male PK but I might be rong so I will post his pictures first to see were do I stand and what will I do next.

Hope i find the "force" in u guys to succed in this experience :D

1- hey Mr.Draco :) well money and a better life called me to Ireland a few years ago :) ahahahahah everyone loves the algarve but that's not Portugal it self, that's the smalest county in Portugal and most of it dosnt have nothing traditional, but hey it compensates with the beach's :D and cheap drink ;)

2- Sean ma man :) i will talk to ian then, one thing I'm finding very dificult is to find a proper fish store, a place were u trust the knowledge and the fish :D, so the second best thing is a fellow fish breeder :)

I'll do that Sean,

I've walked all city center this weekend, and the only shop with a nice variaty of tropical fish is the one in Parnell street, I bought two amazing females there, allthough the conditions of some fish are not great specially the ones that interest me (Siamese Fighters/Bettas).
The skinny guy in the store as very poor knowledge but he actually knows a bit about Bettas... Told me he will get me a halfmoon male next Thursday :) ...

Outside city center, I don't have a car ou company van, the only shop I went is Petstop over in Blanchardstown, big variaty of fishes, loads of CT Betta males, the costumer service lacks a lot... So maybe next week in the ITFS meeting maybe I can buy some fighters I hope, btw anyone knows where is the meeting going to take place ????

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

Good to see someone interested in a bit of Betta breeding.

The next ITFS meeting will be next month (2nd tuesday of the month).....see the ITFS section in clubs to get address detail.

Finding good starter breeding stock is not always easy if you fancy doing a bit of 'breeding for quality'. But, even if you find a good stock then your first batch could be a very mixed as you can't always tell the parental history.

I had a look in the photo section, and your post just has a list of 3 names but no photos.
