Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Heya all,

I've been a fish keeper for the last 20 years or so. I'm originally from Liverpool, UK. But I've been living and working in Cork, Ireland for close to four years now and have been maintaining a very basic aquarium setup with a selection of community fish. Sadly I may be forced to leave the country within the next couple of months and as such I may be looking to re-home my fish as quickly as possible.

My setup has 3 golden zebra danios, 6 white widow tetras, 2 kribs (I'm somewhat certain they're female), 3 pakistani loaches, a baby bristlenose pleco (not sure which species) and a sailfin pleco of some kind (Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus - Glyptoperichthys Joselimaianus I think) -- he isn't anywhere near his max size.

I have a decent selection of bogwood in there and well establish anubias, java fern and java moss. I'll be looking to get rid of the tank and filter too, it's a fluval external to do 200 litres/h, the tank is a rio 125 if I remember correctly.

I'm not 100% certain that I'll be going yet but this is the reason I wanted to come and sign up and be part of the community. If worst comes to the worst I know I can dump my fish at one of the local stores, but I'd be quite upset to have to do that. I'd love to see them go to a good home. Anyway, sorry to break any forum rules talking about this in my introductory post, but I feel like this is the introduction to my current situation with fish keeping I suppose.

Thanks for reading,

~Matt

Thanks for the welcomes guys :>

Sorry again for breaking the rules, I would say I'm not really looking to profit in any way shape or form. I'm just concerned for getting a home for the fish I care about more than anything else.

I won't really know my fate, i.e. whether or not I'll be staying in Cork, for at least a few more weeks. Once I know for sure I'll probably start making more concerted efforts to get my fish taken care of if that's what needs to be done.

Thanks again for the welcomes and the concern. ^^';

Sadly I'll be leaving the country at the end of April, if anybody wants to or knows somebody who would want to give my fish a good home please get in touch with me -- again I'm in Cork at the moment. Not to worry though, I'm friendly with the local fish shop owners so it's not too desperate of a situation. I'd just rather them go to a fish keeper than a shop necessarily.

Update: I've managed to re-home all of my fish, which is great news.

I'm left with my tank and a lot of equipment though.

It's a Jewel Rio 125, lid/hood, light, heater, stand/cabinet and air pump. The tank doesn't come with a filter, but does have everything else and other than that is ready to go. =)

Volume: approx. 125 Litres
Aquarium Measurements: 81 x 36 x 50 cm
Cabinet Measurements. 81 x 36 x 73cm

I am super happy to give this tank away to a good home, but I am also super busy due to my move and will need the tank picked up. I live in Cork City Centre. Also I am away from the 22nd to the 25th and I leave the country on the 29th. So the tank will need to be picked up on one of the following dates:

19th, 20th, 21st, 26th, 27th, 28th

I'm not working at the moment so I am flexible to whatever pick up time would suit (i.e. very early and very late would be fine by me if needs be).

Thanks! <3

Okay, thanks everybody for the help and concern! <3

I posted my tank on Gumtree and it went within the hour so that's all taken care of now. =)

I guess I'll be saying farewell to Cork and Ireland in the next couple of weeks!

I'll miss her!
