Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hey Guys and Gals Id like to introduce myself, Firstly I would like to say this website is a god-send and so helpful for so many topics- Much Respect!!!

Im quite new to this stuff and this is my first tank, its a Juwel Rio 125 and it does the job grand, Ive had the tank for the past 9 months now and have'nt had a single problem.(I do get the water tested every 2 weeks at seaH aq -just to be safe) the P.h is normally around the 7 mark, so the tank has artificial plants (i know ye) But its my first tank.. The filter is a fluval 205 and its brilliant! No noise no hassel and does the job great, The fish i have is a simple mix of platies/mollies guppies,16 tetras, sword tails and a group of 8 panda cory cats (which i love) Oh and a Cherry shrimp!!

SO.. for my next project im planning on buying a a 260ltr upwards tank, and setting it up with live plants and some beautiful fish!!

If i have a question its about the Co2 systems... I have read a few post about this but still havent a clue...some people have fire ext hooked up to there tanks??? Any ways hopefully some one fills me in... it all looks very strange and i cant wait to understand it!!

Also, i know this is an introductory area but,if you look through the photos theres one of 'Just Tetras' and one of them has a quite a noticeable shade of white on his tail? I dont think its whitespot but as ive said im not an expert.. any diagnosis is welcome..!

Any ways im not goin to start a book on here so chat soon and Lovely to meet every1!!! :woohoo:

Ger is right mate

If you are going down the heavy planted tank route i would start off with a very good substrate,Co2 and also make sure you are dosing food ferts and dont forget about lighting

what are your plans as in about the above

What lighting is on the tank

Thanks again Sean and Kev,
The 160 ltr is just for my community tank ( a little upgrade for the lads) There gonna love the extra space!!

In the next few months when the funds come into play im gonna get a 260ltr/300ltr and set it up nice maybe thinking an amazon scene with Co2 the hole works
Thanks again for the welcomings!!

Ps: Heres a pic of My SAE I picked up today From Seahorse Aq!!

Hi Stephen, welcome to the forums.

Ref: to your question in your first post.I have quite alot of tetra's and often see a little white patch on the tip of their tails.I never had any problems with it , white spot will look like little grains of salt on the fish. If you can get a better picture up i'm sure the lads on here can diagnose it.

Good luck, stuart.

Not being able to view the Fish very clearly, it is difficult to say what may be wrong, I say may, because there might not be anything wrong at all, sometimes the rays in a Fish's Tail or Fin are closer together than usual and look white.
