Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi

I have kept tropical fish for the last 4 1/2 years (I also did for a couple years when a teenager).

I have a Juwel Rekord 800

My current fish are

4 cardinal tetras
4 red tail tetras
4 glowlight tetras

I also have 1 red eye tetra and 1 bleeding heart tetra who I have had pretty much since I started I did have more of these in a school but in January 2011 had cycle crash/ammonia disaster and several fish did not make it. It took a couple months to get the tank completely back to normal and I just gradually added a few fish back at a time to make sure everything was stable.

I know about the nitrogen cycle and ph levels etc. and what different fish prefer. I use API liquid masterkit to test my water

:)

Welcome to the Forum tg, I hope we get some pics of your setup soon, otherwise the Forum lookslike a Newspaper, we need a bit of Eye Candy from time to time to spice it up.

I'm going to take some photos soon. :)

I am also settig up my old tank which is a little bit smaller, looks good as new after cleaning it up. Haven't decided exactly what fish I'll add to it. Going to add the water and start the cycling process today so I'll have a few weeks to decide what to go for.

My LFS has got a new supplier so I'll be able to get my panda corys from there, which is good as only up the road. I got six little rummy nose tetras there today (which came from new supplier), they have really good colouring and were nice and active. Just acclimitising them now so I'll take some pics tomorrow.

So many fish to choose from for my 2nd tank, my 1st is a community tank I guess so not sure if I want a second community tank or do something more specific, open to suggestions....

I was wondering if I do a second community tank can I get bleeding heart tetra school and add my lone bleeding heart tetra in with them. He seems happy where he is and schools with some of the others and is about 3 1/2 - 4 years old maybe, not sure if I should just leave his as he is or not. The red eye tetra schools with some of my other tetras and is at least 4 years old so might just leave him where he is in current tank :)

Hi TetraGirl

If you would like to email me on your photos i can add them for you

It really is simply to do :hammer:

if you click on add file down below find your file on your desktop or where ever you have it saved then click on it and then just press insert and it will insert it where ever you want it

I know my self that something when you try do all eight it will not work so 2 or 3 at a time should be great

Also a little tip for anyone who doesn't already know if you have more then 8 photos you would like to add then when all 8 are up save and then edit the post and this will allow you tp add another 8 and so on

cool tip Sean
that's handy to know

I find the best and quickest way to add pix is to:

1. save the pix in photobucket.com
2. copy the image codes
3. paste the image codes on the post

and that's it, done...
nice n' easy

welcome to the Forum Tetragirl

I like the sound of using the other tank to increase the number of Bleeding Heart Tetras
that would be lovely, maybe add a few Otto's, a few Corydoras, a few nice Plants...
something like that
