Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi guys, my name is Ricky from Waterford city. I am the fish house manager in Maxizoo, again in the city. I usually join forums and never become too active, but Des has highly recommended IFK, the people and the advice. Like Des, I look after cold water, nano, community and regional, specialist and Cichlids. My own collection includes a reef tank, Axolotls and a musk turtle (as well as reptiles and a Samoyed as of last night :D) My setups are as follows....

Reef :

Aqua El 280 4 foot. No sump but running an Eheim 225, TMC 400 skimmer, hydor koralia 3 powerhead, 4 t5 light unit.

Maroon clown
2 common clowns
firefish
bangaii cardinal

candycane trumpets
metallic green hammer
green torch
purple frogspawn
Lace coral
spotted purple mushrooms
green zoas, white zoas
purple, white and green star polyps
green toadstool
Australian green Duncan
red colony polyps
green and purple blastos
and several random bits and bobs

The axolotls are in a 4 foot setup 280 litres (clearseal)
using an aqua one 450 external and a very dull white t8 (reflector facing away from the tank to give a small glow)

I have 2 white albinos
Golden albino
wild type axolotl

I have a great love for Lotls and am currently trying to resolve some animal right issues including incorrect habitat in shops and incorrect selling.... this can be fatal to these little guys.

Apart from this I have kept african and american cichlids, community and species tanks. At the moment I have a hugh focus on regions and natural setups in work. The display tanks are what I would be proud to have at home and because of the constant work, I have decided to focus on these rather than having similar tanks at home. You could say my pride and joys but thats a whole new thread depending on what how you guys feel about it.

Long winded but that is "properly" me :)

Not at all 'long-winded' Ricky you're very welcome to our little group.

Thanks for joining and, even more so, thanks for 'Introducing' yourself to us.
(Be warned - they are mad for pics here, so get the old camera out and start snapping).

Welcome, Will be nice to see photos of your reef tank when you post them. Especially as it's lit with T5s, have been toying with the idea of a smallish reef but the cost of the lighting always puts me off, having said that there are sometimes some good bargains on here.
