Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

new found hobby!

Hi guys, got my tank setup a few weeks now. have a vision 180L
I have bought 14 so far. I've went with African Malawi cichlids setup to suit my tap water
Unsure of most of them, couldn't remember by the time I left the shop what I had.
I do know i have a electric blue jack dempsy, about 2.5" victoran cichlids x 2. can't remember what the rest are!
anyway loving the new hobby and patiently waiting for their colours to come out!
will up pictures if people are interested.. :)

Get the pics up as soon as you can fella....
Best of luck with the jack d.... extremely aggressive but very beautiful fish!
In a 180 litre tank I'm going to guess that at least half the 14 you have will be sacrificial lunch at some stage!

What sorta filter system are you running?

I have a fluval 306 filter with a spray bar, I think I should get another internal filter also,
I am wondering should I go with a standard filter or a bio filter?
not happy hearing about the news about him going to eat them! got my fish from aquatic village, he think he will manage OK?

I have him about 36 hours, he hasn't really eaten much and doesn't seem to be involved with the other fish, he has been mainly hiding under a rock! but the smaller last do be around him!
I am planning on getting a good few more in it to stop territorial issues, i doubt any of the toher could fit in his mouth, but keep him well fed would be the best thing?
the fish seem hungry ALL the time, i am unsure if I am under feeding them, or they just are hungars

its kinda hard to get a picture of them all together and when I get home from work it doens't be that sunny out, will try take a pic tomorrow, might just see the unit itself!

By no stretch of the imagination am I an expert
I'm just going on advise'ive been given on these fish!

I'd never throw frozen food into a tank, I always put it into look warm water for 10 mins and defrost it before it gets near the fish!

Hi lenny welcome to the forum
