Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi

I'm a relative newcomer to the fish-keeping game, I currently have three fancy goldfish in an approx 95 litre tank but I'm keen to set up another tank sometime soon (as well as upgrade my existing to something larger when I can afford it), a marine setup, or possibly some dwarf puffers if I can get them.

I've attached a picture of my tank, I'm in between hoods at the moment so you'll see one from a 75 litre Juwel sitting dangerously on some pieces of timber, it's a temporary measure.

Welcome Derek.

We nearly all start into the hobby with goldfish and then the bug kicks in and you are hooked for the rest of your life.

The forum is a great source of informatioon and advice for all aspects of the hobby.

Your tank looks good and healthy. So you appear to be doing things right and are off to a good start.

Best of luck.

Greg

Thanks Greg, I had issues with cycling, bad advice from pet shops, and a perrennialy sick Ranchu (that I unfortunately lost) to begin with, but I'm reasonably well up now on filtration, water parms and the realities of goldfish keeping, I've mainly been using Koko's goldfish forum but figured the local knowledge on here would be good. I'm looking to add a fourth fish at some stage but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for an affordable 200 L tank, either that or I'll have a go at building one.

Glad to make your acquaintance

Welcome along, you will learn lots here. I have and continue to.
Decent size tank there, you can fit a few more fish in there for sure.
I have a 180L planted tank, picked up 15 rummy nose tetras today, they are in quarantine for a few weeks.

Hi JSleator

I'd love to pop an Oranda in there but most of the more knowledgeable goldfish keepers I have spoken to so far have advised that for fancies a good rule of thumb is 20 Gallons for the first and 10 for each additional one. I think my 95 litres is around 25 gallons so that would probably make me overstocked already?

I thought that I might get away with another one as they are juveniles and I plant to upgrade before the end of the year but people have advised me against it, even with 10 times filtration and regular water changes
