Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi All!

More of the Maxi Zoo crew I'm afraid! :P I'm Catherine O and I work in Clonmel with Catherine M

I've kept fish for about 5 years now and have recently changed my home tank (a Rio 240) from an Amazonian Biotope to a cichlid tank - a change I'm chuffed with as I find the cichlids great fun to watch :)
Having just set up our new display tank at work (it's the pic in my sig, an AquaOne 100, 240l, with a JBL crystalprofi 1500e) I have fallen in love  and hope to have one myself within a couple of months (I may have to tell my OH it fell off the back of a lorry though  lol).

I'm by no means the worlds greatest fish expert but I'm learning all the time and rumour has it this is the place to rub shoulders with the greats! Looking forward to getting to know you all as well as improving my fishy knowledge :)

Not sure how the falling off a truck excuse will work with a fishtank ;)
Welcome

Welcome along, great start by the way. Flattery and pics

Good luck with the fell very gently off a truck story. It is truly amazing how well they pack those tanks for shipping.

Good to have some more experience here, every day is a school day! And the day we stop learning is the day we die!

The Aquaone is a beautiful tank, and looks great anywhere! If I bring another tank home, I guarantee I'll be shot! 2 bed apartment with 3 tanks already, only 2 running at the moment tho lol

If the "it fell off the lorry" story works I'll bring you up here to teach me the story so I can tell it to my wife lol

What cychlids you keeping?

If the fell-off-the-lorry line fails, I'll change tack and go with "Just kidding, it's a uh... totally free gift from the company for being so great!"... tbh, he's more likely to believe the lorry story :silly:

Oh jeez, at the moment I have malawi and tanganyikan cichlids mixed in the tank, which is far from ideal but it is most definitely only temporary... I have a group of 5 3" frontosa (I think 2 m and 3 f but it's a bit soon to confirm) and the rest are young malawis which I randomly picked from work (including a couple of otopharynx lithobates, a couple of hap. borleyi yellowfin, a couple of hap. borleyi redfin (red kandangos), a suspicious looking electric blue, a couple of red zebras, a nasty-assed (but rather pretty) rusty cichlid and a handful of others... Working in a fish store is hard - I spend a lot of time reminding myself that I am not a child in a candy store  Thankfully the display tank at work is helping with that, it currently contains groups of compressiceps goldhead and cyprichromis leptosoma jumbo yellowheads and next Wednesday a group of 4 synodontis petricola will be arriving to join the party after a bout in quarantine!
