Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Thought I better introduce myself seeing as I joined yesterday.
I've been away from fish keeping for 40 years and have now given in to the constant nagging in my head to start up again.
I'll be looking at getting back into Gouramis, Beta, Cichlids (African), Killifish for starters. Back in the 60s/70s Paradise fish were kind of a rarity and pretty expensive and I always lusted after them, I'm hoping to get my hands on some of those this time round.
Currently I have nothing as I have to clear everything out of my home office and then convert that to my fish room, so hopefully soon I will be looking for equipment (used/new) and fish soon.
Well, here goes everything, I must be mad at my age

The hobby seems to remain in your blood no matter how long you are away from it.
I'm looking forward to getting started again.

how many fish tanks would you like to start with ?
I'm asking because if you are sure you are back for good then do some planning ahead to build or setup racks, plumbing and air lines may be good and help you make a breeze of water changes and maintenance later.
I am 3 and 1/2 years into the hobby and having had no previous experience/vision i wasted a lot of money and time in changing things constantly, and on top i have accumulated a ton of stuff that i don't necessarily use and that keeps in my way.Enjoy the comeback!

I'm in the middle of designing racks at the moment. It looks as though I will have room for quite a few. The main drawback will be funds so racks will be designed and built first, followed by tanks etc.
I'm very limited with funding as my income consists of disability pension so this will be an ongoing project which won't happen in a week or two. Some aspects of the conversion will have to be carried out with paid labour at times, due to disability, so that will slow things down a bit. But at the end of the day it will be more worthwhile than rushing straight into it.
I'm looking forward very much to the other parts of the hobby, hatching brine shrimp, making infusoria culture, white worm, micro worm etc. etc. These all add to the excitement and satisfaction.
As time goes on I will be chasing people for their excess/used equipment they don't want or need and am keeping a close eye on the "For Sale" section
