Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi All,

Just wanted to say hi. I'm loving the forum, I got loads of useful information so far.

I have just got an Elite Style 60 Tropical Set, I have it running about 6 - 7 weeks now. We’ve done 3 water test now and all is well. We are using Organic Aqua Maintenance Kit.

I have:
6 Guppies,
1 common pleco,
2 bottom feeders,
1 algae eater,
3 neon’s (One blue and red, two gold),
2 glass tetras,
6 mollies
and 3 striped tetras.

These have all been alive and kicking for 3 weeks now. I lost quite a few guppies and neon’s at the start but I feel now the tank is much more settled. The problem was they got sucked into the back of the filter

One of my guppies has just given birth to 17 little sprogs, there in a small isolation tank right now. Not sure what to do next…

Firstly welcome to the forum and congrats on the guppies! You wont like to hear the next part however, you are going to be overran by mollies and guppys as both these fish breed like rabbits. If I was you,Id leave them out of the isolation tank and let them in the main tank and let nature take its course! However not many of them will probably harm them as most of those fish will tend to leave the fry alone from my experience. The fry usually find places to hide anyhow. The Guppys and mollies may eat them but depends on how big the fry are and how well fed the guppy/mollies are! Also check your filter daily if you are doing this as alot of the fry will end up inside it and you want to keep them clear from there as they can 1. survive on the filter media as its fully of food for them and 2. some die in the filter and create an ammonia engine as such.

Probably not what you wanted to hear Im afraid but thats what may need to be done. Also the guppies and mollies will do this on a monthly basis so consider separating the males from the females at this point Id suggest.
