Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Not really good at using the internet so please forgive the spelling in advance.

I keep koi and marine fish and also tropical fish as well other pets. 2nd night on this site and already I find these forums very useful and helpful.. not only that I reconise a good few of you from Brittis and wackers and other places. Anyway now I am getting to know how to use these forums I will try to send some pics of my fish and things.

Tanks again guys (sorry,, bad joke I know) tried to add pics but to large on size, not use to my partners computer so I will add them tomorrow.

But I have 1 question,, anyone know what is the best way to get the cats away from my pond in the last 3 weeks the little feckers half eating around 4 koi as most of my fish are trained to eat from my hand when I tap the water, but now they all sit at the bottom of the pond scared. Who says fish have a short memory they remember what happened to their mates..

I have a dog and she is going mad to catch a big fat cat but I will not let that happen, she is a Alaskan Malamute, and goes by the name of \"my fury daughter\" so my mrs says.

Hi Des!

Welcome to the forum. :)

Looking forward to seeing a few pictures.

Re. the greedy cats ... maybe covering the pond with a net ? or would this \"cat repellent\" product help by being sprinkled around the pond's perimeter (could it be a dangerous product for the fish?) ? spray the cats with the garden hose when they get too close ?

Buy a Jack Russell

or build yourself one of these:

You may have guessed I'm not a cat lover.

Hi again,

Just logging on now, too busy in work to get back to you all soonier. I have attached a few pics of my marine tank on my profile page if you want to check them out. Hopefully during the weekend I will also attach pics of my pond and stuff , still only learning how to attach clips etc so it is taking me a little longer as I don't want to make many mistakes.

That youtube clip is very very funny, still laughing at that it and the other ones like it.

Regards
Des

hi des and welcome to the site. looking forward to seeing your pics and sorry to hear about your koi.

pointer i have to say that the squirrel launcher has given me all kinds of ideas and it gave me a good laugh too. I am glad to see that no squirrels were harmed in the making of this film. It could solve the cat problems alright.
