Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hello! was created by wolfsburg (wolfsburg)
Hello folks!
Just registered and thought I'd share a few pics of my tanks. I've got a nano reef setup and a smaller tank with a pair of guppies. Been keeping fish since I was a kid but have been very much into it for a couple of years. Just have a pair of Perculas in the marine tank with the usual inverts, corals, anemones etc. I use liverock and a Fluval 205 external filter. I also have a small powerhead and a Vskim nano skimmer. My new lights are Haiyang 55w with blue LEDs.
Here's a few pics!...

Thanks lads! I do my best. I have the Jewel set up for marines for just under a year. Had it set up for 2 or so years before that. Quite a change it has gone through! Here is the same tank when I originally set it up for cichlids...

And later when I got tired of the aggression...

As you can see both myself and that particular tank has come a long way!!!

The reason why I keep such small setups is because I move around a bit, and moving 70L is hard enough as it is... when I buy a house I'll get a huge setup!

Cheers Ian! That is Echinodorus bleheri and Microsorum pteropus. It is actually only 15L, I have a small heat pad in it which keeps it at 25 centigrade ish. Tropica plants all the way! Some may say the ornament is naff but my friend bought it for me at the fish market in Beijing so I love it. I'd only keep a couple of guppies in it. I've got a nice male and a heavily pregnant female in it at the min... waiting for babies any day now.
I recently acquired a Poison Dart frog too if anyone is interested... Dentrobates auratus. I'll get a pic of that soon too.

Cheers Sheag35! It will be a few years before I get a bigger tank! I like to keep things small and very well kept for some reason. It just seems to be the way I prefer to operate! But when I buy a house in a few years I will prob get a big tank... freshwater community or heavy planted though, I can barely afford to keep a nano marine tank! :woohoo:

The 12 fry yesterday turned into 19 fry today! Usually it is the other way round
I reckon she popped a few more out last night and today as she was still a bit fat after the first births.
Moved the babies into a polybox with an air-powered filter and small heater. Feeding liquifry and powdered spectrum pellets. Added a little marine salt too! :) They are nearly twice the size today.

Well done on the tanks - they look fantastic. Just goes to show you dont need a large tank!! I keep guppies myself amd OMG they breed like rabbits. What are you going to do with the fry when they are bigger?
