Going mad
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

What sort of filtration do you have on the tank? I am guessing you,re tank might not of fully cycled and 9 fish in 7 weeks is only going to add to you ammonia problems.
What fish do you have at the moment and what is the size of the tank?

I take it my filter squeezings didn't help the problem? All you can do for now is keep up with the water changes. Have you lost any more since i was down?

AIP ammo lock will give you a false reading. It "locks the ammonia down" so you will still test positive for it. Crapy crappy product. It drove ne mad too.Dont use it.Do a waer change for a couple of days on the trot and you will read zeros.
dont make me come over there.

If you do a 30% water change daily it should help.... Im not really fimiliar with this product 'advance aquis 1050 (aqua one)'... You said you have been doing water changes for the last 3 weeks.. How much? and How much water do you normally change every week?
The clown loaches and silver shark wont be able to live in a 190L long term... Bala sharks grow pretty fast, this wont help with your ammonia prob..

change 15-25% daily for the next few weeks or until readings for ammonia and nitrIte go down to or below .25ppm (test every day) and ONLY use tapsafe (dechlorinator) as the other products mess with the cycle that should form naturally in your filter
i have used this method for all my tanks and cycling was very fast and filters are very strong, no costly additives for me!
get your own test kit and test before every water change, the higher the reading the more you should change (up to around 30%) you will see ammonia readings go down and nitrIte go up, continue changing until nitrIte goes down (ammonia should be zero at this stage) and nitrAte will rise. when nitrIte is reading zero or close to, you should be ok with 25% weekly changes but keep testing every day or 2. make sure the tap water is clean (test for all the above) and also get it close as you can to the tank temperature to reduce shock given to already stressed fish
note the difference between nitrIte and nitrAte these are 2 different toxins, the latter not bein very dangerous unless in very high concentration, it just feeds plants and/or algae but it will continually rise in any tank that is cycled, which is why people do regular water changes
keep us updated and get a test kit it is the most valuable thing a fishkeeper should own (IMO) and post your test results (the first few will still read off until that ammo-lock and cycle stuff is out of the water through water changes
