Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

GREETINGS TO ALL

hello all; i have finally got down to posting an introduction about myself and my tanks. i have been on this forum for a few weeks already but thought it will be better to post when i know how to post some pictures as well(or think i know:laugh: ; here goes)

have to say though that the forum is great; learnt a lot and met many nice people along the way.

i am running 2 tanks atm; a 120 litre malawi cichlid tank and a 350 litres largely tangayikan tank. i had the smaller tank for 4 years now but just got the larger one few months ago. i tried to resist it but the temptation was just too great

my main love now are my FRONTOSAS. from the 1 burundi i had in my malawi tank made me went mad and i researched them for weeks and weeks which eventually led me to buy the larger 350 tank just for them!

anyways i can go on and on with my fish as its nice to be able to share the joy and happiness with other fish lovers:)

to cut my intro short; i have in the smaller tank assorted malawi cichlids and in the larger tank 1 burundi(5 inches); few blue frontosas (2-3 inches) identity (types) still unsure; 2 leleupis; 2 brichardis and few malawis i put in to help circulate the tank in the beginning(its so hard to remove them now but i will have to soon)
water temp 25; ph about 8 and filter the original juwel 1000 l/h bio filter and the eheim eco pro 300.

i get my stuff mainly from my local in aquapaws galway who are always helpful(thanks pete). i wld goto great journeys to get some nice plants and fish like aquarium solutions and FFF.i am trying to have live plants in the tank although i know its not the best with cichlids but i just love the naturalness it brings to the tank.

anyways i must cut my intro short now or nobodys gonna read it!:P

my short term plans are to get some rly decent frontosas preferably blue zaire babies (thanks to Mick Veale for this)and i intend to grow them for a year or so and then move them to a six feet tank....sheesh this hobby is addictive ain't it!

lastly wld rly love to hear from all of you especially frontosa lovers!
(and apologies for being a lousy cameranman; i blame the camera!)

hmmm; i think i will stop here and post more if this works; im afraid of posting identical pics or pics that u cant see

Welcome along to the Forum...actually I was in Aquapaws yesterday myself.

Well done with adding pics - the regulars love 'em, please keep them coming.

I blame the camera for my shortcomings too, nothing to do with my prowess, or lack of it.

Not at all,
I'm a resident of N.Tipp, closer to Galway than Dublin - but not by that much...I just enjoy 'doing the rounds' (within reason).

thanks folks; the 'tree thing' is real; the name just slipped by me now :(
its redish dark brown in colour and very similiar to a 'red spider wood'? i needed to boil it; scrub it and repeated the process till it sinks in the water and does not have any 'growth' on it.
