Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hiya,

I'm new to this site but not to keeping fish. I have kept fish for about 7 years, granted I started with goldfish but it was a start. I have only kept tropical fish for about the last two years and have had some very bad look from the start although lately it seems to be getting better.

Ever since my three gold fish my love for fish has grown. I am still a novice if I'm to be honest but I'm learning with the great help of the lads in Broadwalk pets in Dublin. Their advice and experience has been invaluable to me. So in case any of them read this, thank you.

At the moment I have a Juwel Rekord 600 (63L) tank and have a total of 7 fish. I have one pleco, two honey gaurami, two angel fish, one white cloud & one other fish that I really can't remember what they are called. I'm hoping to get a bigger tank soon but not quite yet unfortunately. I'm hoping to start planting real plants and not these plastic ones. Id love to build a real environment instead of just having fish in a tank with plastic ornaments.

I'm hoping that your knowledge and experience will be very useful to me when I'm finally able to get my bigger tank. I look forward to reading all your postings.

Well anyway that's me and my very little collection of fish. I'll stop before this turns into a book.

Cheers

Hi susie, welcome, nice to hear you're interested in setting up a proper aquatic environment for ur fish. This is called a BIOTOPE aquarium, and i recommend u google it,the best man for this is Takashi Amano,he has website and specializes in nature aquariums (some of em will amaze and really inspire you). Its all about setting up properly from start, with correct materials, but well worth it.I followed him and have a brill planted tank and happy fish. Substrate very important to grow plants well and lush(don't waste ur money on plants without correct substrate etc,i know, they will break ur heart)I recommend proper research before doing a planted aquarium. I'll help where i can too. ;)

No mouth bigger than the smallest fish in tank.
