Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

LOL thats true ok.

2' tank has some guppys and swordtails.

6' has 4 bronze cats 2 dwarf gouramies 2 swords 8 neon tetras 8 danios 8 Harlequin and a small plec.

The cats laid eggs but most got fungus some hatched but none survived. Was not expecting it.

I might get a few more small tanks to breed guppies.

Welcome along,
Just wondering what your plans are when you breed all them guppies,my experience of them is that they get pretty hard to move on, and you will be overpopulated in no time. Unless you plan on using them as live feed for some other fish. (dont wanna go into the rights and wrongs of that just now!).

Welcome along anyhow, get some pics up,sounds good that the corys are already laying eggs, probably happened after a water change.

Gavin

Well my idea is not to just breed for numbers but colours. Genetics floats my boat if you know what I mean.

Not sure about if i end up with too many but I guess I will stop breeding if that happens or buy more tanks. Maybe a fish house even.

What would you do Fishowner? open to suggestions?

Very nice Tony.

Where did you pick up the 3d background from?

I'm toying with the idea of building my own but don't know if I want the hassle. I've only seen a couple in one shop and wasn't keen on what they had.

Cheers!

Hi Denver
I made it myself. It's easy go for it ;)

I got 2 tubes of acrylic paint, one white and one black.

These are non toxic and no problems yet anyway.

Basicaly I used 3 pieces of 2' polystyrene

Drew a plan of where each rock was going to be.

Cut the rocks from other pieces some of the 1" and some 2".

Then siliconed them to the sheets and used a weed burner to finish the surface (also gets rid of all the loose bits).

I covered the joints with rocks glued only to the middle sheet to make it easier to fit into the tank.

Painted it grey and then gave it a rub to the high parts of each rock with a sponge using a lighter shade and thats about all.

I did give it a good wash before I used it and also done a few water changes in the first few days before cycling the tank.

Really nice job Tony.

Since my tank is working away, I don't have any way to cycle with it in, unless I get massive containers and put it into old tank water and let it sit for a few days.

I'll need to think about it more huh!

Cheers for the how to guide though!
