Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

hows it going

Welcome the the forum!

I'd advise you get another Angel in there sharpish. I had 3 in my tank for a while, 2 started to pair off, the 3rd felt lonely and started kicking the cr@p out of everything in the tank to the point where I had to donate him to someone after he killed 3 head & tail light's quite viciously.

A board or lonely angel is quite destructive to his tank mates.

How do you find the red tail in with the angels by the way. I've been contemplating adding a couple to my set up but have read they aren't very well tempered.

Have you cycled your tank or just put all these fish in as soon as the dust settled??

Welcome along. Sticking two RTBS in one tank is asking for trouble unless the system is big. They may also go for similar shaped fish like rainbow sharks. Provide a cave for the shark to call home and keep them with boisterous tank mates and they make a great addition to the community setup.

Phew! was worried there!

there's lots you can do to aquascape, 3d backgrounds, plants, lighting etc.

My setup is still very much a work in progress but time and cash aren't on my side right now so it's a very slow process lol.

I'm not a massive fan of silk plants and novelty statues but it's all about what you like.

I have an air curtain tube doing nothing if you want it. I know they're cheap to buy but I can't use it in my tank. I have one of the digital fluval heaters and when I use the air curtain, I get low flow errors on it so I've switched to stones instead.
You're more than welcome to have it if you're around city centre at some stage. Won't stretch the full with of your tank as mine is a 180l so was cut to fit that.

As for fishy additions, schooling fish are great in the tank, with the mix of agressive fish you have, go for cardinal tetra's over neons I'd say or they'd quickly become a tasty snack...

I don't know much about discus other than they are notoriously sensitive fish. Plenty of the guys here keep em so I'm sure they'll post something when they see it...

yeah i have a lightin unit on the tank that cost over 600 euro its for marine and stands up off the top off the tank but works and looks great on the tank i dont like the fake plants me self but i seen these in petmania one day and never seen anything like them think ill need about three or four off them tho and at 20euro a pop i think it will take a while ha yeah that curtain sound like a winner as i only have one off the air sticks that are 12cm long i think i was going to get two off them but the curtain would do the job where abouts in dublin are u based as im up there very week end in tallaght yeah a schooling off the cardinal tetra's would suit nice id say ill have to think about it yeah hopefully someone that knows more about them will post something
