Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

mmmm. not so sure, my idea of facebook is, a medium for teenage girls to boast about jeep ownership and slag fat birds, and as a dating agency.

FB too....from what I can gather. But as a dating agency?? Ummmm......funnily, my Facebook account does give a list a 'people I met through facebook': these include my girlfriend and my children (I'm pretty sure that I did not select my kids from facebook). :)

I hate Facebook!! Arrogant Friend chasers! I stayed on it for a few months then started to see people comparing their Friend tallies, not for me, unsbscribed, it has a third Party company that has purchased the rights to anything you might upload, a very dangerous thing.

Can't say I like it either Kev. It's really only for children or for adults that have yet to grow up. I must unsubscirbe also. Everybody with the surname Kinsella wants to know me all of a sudden.

I'm grown up, and I use it (it is the only internet freedom that I have at my disposal really.....I have to be a good boy on all forums you see).

The only way I can get info from my kids is by FB......even the mobile phones have become obselete.
It's also useful to keeping in contact with my friends in the UK.

As for Friend Requests...... I have a whole load of people I don't know sending me messages like "....Hey buddy....let's be friends...." UMMMMMM.....loike...NO. :hammer:

The HSI has two facebook pages..... one was a simple social thing, and the other is good means to alert people of new discoveries etc etc. It seems to do a trick or two.

I'll relate a little tale,
In the earlier days of face book I received two invites to join 'friends' on it - neither person knew they had been sent!
But before I had contacted them I started the sign-up process and entered my email address but didn't go through with it as it seemed not 'my thing'.
I withdrew my details and now, even after three or four years I still get loads of emails - ostensibly from face book - to join another **** book (I'll leave it to your imagination to replace the asterisks) and loads of invitations from females who have read my (non-existent) profile and like the sound of me (if only they knew) and do I want to 'hook up' this weekend! This, apart from appendage growth, medications online and viagra offers (all face book originated) makes up 99% of my spam filtered mail.

And all this to someone who didn't fully join it!
Lord knows what I'd be getting if I had!!!

So, it isn't for me - no way!

Some of us 'new men' are quite trendy and with-it, like.

Roger Waters, then Bon Jovi last week (too many drunk scantly clad middle-aged women for my tastes though) and British Pink Floyd last night.......no caterwauling there, nor with the Sabbath.

Hey man, I even know the latest in MTV rave and dance music.

Anyway.....the ITFS is on Facebook. I'll support it, and I have a good array of exotic animal keepers to direct towards it.

Good man Ian,
I did only say it wasn't for me due to the reasons given - NO WAY was I suggesting anyone else shouldn't, especially those with exotic friends...

@ ian only joking about pink floyd, but i still reckon ozzie could caterwaul with the best.
my own favourites would be peter green or eric clapton and of course david gilmour.

ps

It is a great idea - Thanks Darragh.

As far as Facebook is concerned, I haven't noticed any additional spam in my inbox since signing up. I haven't had too many unsollicited will-you-be-my-friend requests. Probably because I avoid registering for many applications.
It's great for keeping in touch with a few friends and sharing photos around.

I've been on fb for years and yeah you get the odd few friend collectors, who will randomly try and add you as a friend or invite you to join some mailing list. but other than that i find it good for keeping in touch with friends who are abroad.I deleted my FB accont once, because i was off line for about a year and didnt want to have open accounts online while i wasn't there to keep an eye on them. But i must say i didn't recive spam emails for me to rejoin. They did and do hold the rights to every single item you upload to your page, thats the only thing i have a problem with.

Also as with everything on the internet alot of people are out to scam unsuspecting people. What you have to be very careful about is when friends of your's send u messages that would be out of character for them.these are usually links to porn sites or servers where you'll pick up crackers or keyloggers, for instance,6 months ago i get a message from my brother inlaw "im in barcalona and have now money to get home can u send me 500 euro for a ticket home pls" He was sitting next to me at the time and his computer had been keylogged.Or a friend of mine had on their status that they had just won a brand new apple ipad and all they did was click on a link and answered a question.Need less to say it was a porn site and they had been hacked.

As for F#CK BOOK that is an internet porn/chat room/hacker site.(of which i have never visited only heard stories about)

Regards Stuart.
