Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

.An online bargain only comes about like a round of drinks from Anthony, every few years!

And to think I was going to buy everyone a pint on Wednesday.
The forum is a seperate entity to the ITFS. The forum is here so that members can share and recieve info regarding their hobby.
If that include a info on a few bargains then so be it.
Aquatic village is a smashing shop and has and will continue to recieve custom from myself and other members here.
If you need food or a filther in a hurry you are not going to buy on line you are going ot use your local LS or the nearest place where you recieved the best service.

Just for the record, I know I have advocated shopping abroad but this was a bit tongue in cheek. I actualy bought my Tera Tec 1200 from Aquatic Village!!!!! saved 40 euro!!!! Drew does a good deal especialy for ITFS members, and I always shop there. I only go abroad for Items not available over here. Second hand Tanks available Ideal for Sumps and breeding, so get yourselves over there.

HiDrew
I applogise if I upset you, very unthoughtful of me. No offence meant. The reason I shop with you is customer service and back up. I know if there is a fault you will replace it on the spot. something you can't do with overseas purchases.
And for all the havn'y been there I suggest you get yourselves over to AQUATIC VILLAGE it's east to get there from anywhere. why not a few get a car together and pay a visit. I gaurantee you will but something. and with the upgrading of the Fish room you will have an even bigger selaction.
It's a day out and with the pub next door why not make a day of it.
From Guppys to monster fish they are all there as well as Marines, which gets bigger everyday, to reptliles and Koi! & a large selection of accessories.
Go See for yourselves.

Let's just say that filter packs up. Does the local LFS stock the parts that you need to fix it?. Probably not. Can the person behind the counter tell you what's wrong with it? maybe, maybe not.
Even if you got the part could you put it in yourself? maybe, maybe not depending on your technical expertise. Would you do it? maybe, if the filter was out of warrenty, definetly not if the warrenty still covered it.
So more than likely your filter will have to be send back to the supplier anyway. Never heard of an LFS offering an replacement filter until your own has been fixed.

I had some very good customer service from internet retailers that would rival any LFS. It's the same if you buy online or inshop. Some online shops offer excellent customer service and some LFS are really bad and vice versa.

We stock the full range of spares for all the filters we sell (and some spares for ones we dont, but even the shops that sell them dont!!!) If our staff cant fix it, we will, depending on situation/ customer, guarrantee etc. replace it no prob, we have great relationships with our suppliers, all the main ones we use are direct, no middlemen!

Glad to see at least one shop doing a full technical backup.
@ Drew,
could you please let people know what brands you are stocking?

Pity that in a lot of the newer filters you can't get at the part anymore since the whole blody things is encased in plastic. They are going the same way as cars these days.
