Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

What absolute Dribble !!

Don't get me wrong....I'm all for fun articles and all for people having the freedom to express their opinion.

But this PFK article is simply dribble.
It has no humour, it is not informative, it is obviously written by some ijet who needs to get some experience in life. :hammer:
An annoying boringly arrogant article to be quite honest.

The subject matter, though, is great for a good humorous article.....but it's like making a floor cloth out of the finest satin money can buy.

It would be good to see some takes on the "what not to say" posted in a thread in Social and Rubbish.

Thx

Every time I try to follow a PFK link it never goes to the article just to recently added, maybe a phone browsing thing.

Cheers

i wouldn't agree entirely... like how many times has an unexperienced fishkeeper said 1 of those examples (well apart from ask for chips  ) on here to be told "well now that doesn't mean diddly"?
personally i wouldn't go near the pfk site unless a link like this but all that moran is doing is basically telling the unexperienced to do is, don't aproach your lfs with any questions unless it is an educated 1 because they won't tolerate it, to me this is 1 mans opinion that would be listened to because the people its aimed at wouldn't know any better so realy its not publishing material... but hey, thats pfk for ye!!

the only helpfull point i can make is the shops don't explain the nitrogen cycle 15 times anymore so might be happy to answer your question

This article is not worth reading anyway.......it's like someone bitching but in a more-holier-than-thou manner.

They also wouldnt be buying the magazine :-)
Though I have heard the phrase about keeping fish so many years from those who I thought would have known better.
Sometimes you need to step back in order to see the wood from the trees.

There was once The Aquarist and Pondkeeper magazine.....much better and inspirational (although it did turn a bit crappy after a change of direction in the 80s).

I don't to knock PFK in general, but I am concerned about the direction of some of its articles.

On the article in question....
I've never heard anyone ever ask if a LFS has any chips.
To publish a non-humorous dig at beginners "silly questions and replies" is not appropriate....if it was humorous then that can always serve as a good was of educating: but it was a snide snobbish attitude of a "god";
In fact, the whole piece was snobbery. (I will use those polite words as I don't want to get banned for using the words in my head).
