Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Clubs meeting. was created by Anthony (Anthony)
Would anybody be interested in a club get together.
Get the 3 clubs together for a meeting. We could each have a mandate and present it to the other clubs..
I recon we could accomplish a lot.
A guest speaker would be cool too. Dinner, drink and home the next day.
Not going into detail because I have no time but will do so later if I get any positive feedback.

I think an overnighter. We can have a few beers and each of the members can do a little talk if they like.
We can discuss how we see and want to see fishkeeping evolving in this country. I recon it will be a belter.

What we would need would be someone who is a proven organiser, good at this sort of thing...now, I wonder where we might find one of those?????

Careful, I hope you weren't suggesting me....? :?

I would be the worst person in the world, we would need someone with "proper" leadership and organisational qualities, anyone that knows me will tell you I have neither...you'll discover this soon enough when we have our meeting next Friday. :o

Now...you could well qualify, I'm sure you have both in large measure! :D

Either that or someone closer to 'home' - I'm sure everyone could deduce who I was alluding to.

It won`t be that hard to organise.
A cheap hotel in the country. If anyone has stayed somewhere nice and resonable lately please let me know.
We could fly to waterford or Shannon and stay somewhere beside the airport. The clubs might be the best way to organise it.
Get a round about figure then look for somewhere.

A good idea. how about making a Diamond from Dublin to the west, east & south, and picking the centre, this would make it accesible to all/ just a thought

you are all divils  still not back to normal yet and if i suggest another junket i may not have a home to go home to...just kidding

i think the best thing to do is start putting the feelers out and see what kind of numbers are involved. it people are serious then they will put their money where their mouth is.

as for autumn dont let it clash with the show in hayling island cause i will be there not that i dont love you all but now that we have 1 show under our belts i will be looking at the english show in a whole new way...mostly to rob their best ideas.

georgina i think you and johnh should organise the venue...and how much to charge in at the door.....ha ha

Limerick sounds like a good idea. Plenty of reasonable hotels. I am out of the country from 26/10-09/11/07. Any other dates would be fine with me.

Just make sure you unbolt your wheels and bring them inside with you - even then they'd probably steal your brake pads!

Aren't we forgetting the Dubs here?

John

Sorry, I just re-read this and it appears I might be suggesting that people in Dublin might be capable of such heinous crimes! No, I meant aren't we forgetting how far the Lads would have to travel, wouldn't somewhere a bit more to the middle/South be more convenient to all?

This clubs meeting is an excellent idea.

Though I have no objections for it to happen in Limerick, Kilkenny would probably be more central : 130 km from Dublin, 150 km from Cork and 180km from Galway... Not sure whether public transports make it easy to get there.

I also would prefer this event to occur in the Autumn as it would be more difficult to catch everyone during the summer months.

I Think the best idea is to have a poll on those that woud DEFINATELY attend a meeting. that would give an indication to numbers and then a deposit.
