Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I would probably be in, however, I will have to check a few work commitments first. Kilkenny would be quite expensive when it comes to hotels. Limerick's much cheaper and there are plenty of OK enough hotels in or near the city centre

Surely wouldn't we all be mobile so wouldn't have to meet in the City Centre? I'd bet that once you came away from there a bit they would a) be glad of our visit and b) be a lot less expensive/more accommodating?

Just a thought.

Limerick would be far better for me - sure it's only down the road - I was thinking of our 'Eastern' colleagues.

The best way to organise this is through the clubs.
We can decide a place and date and then the clubs can book it individually. That way once you pay your deposit if you decide you cannot go you loose it. If it is done on a club by club basis you will not have a large contingincey to cater for and won`t be chasing people for money.

Agreement can be reached about a time and venue through a poll so that democracy rules. Off season might be the best time to go as it will be easier to get a venue.

Anto,

I think one person for each club should be designated/volunteered to gather numbers and deposits once decided upon ; however, I think the overall organisation should be organised by one or two persons. This way, with greater numbers, it would be easier to leverage better deals with hotels, ...

Also, we were discussing this event during the last SAS meeting ; we are all looking forward to it ; however, it has been highlighted that Limerick would definitely be a cheaper venue than Kilkenny as far as accomodation is concerned. It might be a little further for the Dublin crew but it's a dual-carriage way the whole way down, it probably takes the same amount of time to go to Limerick. Plus, public transports might be more frequent from Dublin.

This said, I am not volunteering for the organisation of this event :)
Kindest regards,
Valerie

Limerick.
Anyone got a loan of a gun.
What I mean Valerie is we....

1 Pick a venue.
2 Each club gets numbers.
3 Each club sents up deposits.
4 Designated person collects deposits.
4 He books for that amount.
5 The rest is payed on the day.
6 Any no shows and they loose their deposits.

How does that sound.
