Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all,

With the new website, users should be able to post news, articles and links to the website.

If you have an interesting article, news snippet or link, we would love to see it submitted to the website to grow the website beyond the forum and more as community site for fish keeping.

All registered users should be able to post links and news using the \"User Menu\" on the left hand side.

To submit an article, go to the Articles page and click on \"New\" to begin creating a new article.

If you have any questions, etc, please ask them here or PM me

Thanks

Darragh

Hi Richard,

There should be a link on the page like \"New...\" that you click on to allow you to create new articles.

News can be submitted by clicking on \"Submit News\" button on the \"User Menu\" and links by clicking on the \"Submit WebLink\"

I have also fixed user premissions so all registered users can submit articles.

Hope that helps,
Darragh

Unfortunately one of the articles I have is a useful little stocking calculator & is an Excel document. Is there any way I can get that up?

Richard,

You should be able to copy and paste the content on the excel doc into the web editor.
For the stocking calculator, send it onto me and I'll have a look and see what I can do with it

I had some catfish related weblinks to add, I tried the first one but nothing appeared. Do they have to be vetted or something, or did I do something wrong?

Also there are weblink sections for Cichlids and Discus, can we have one for Catfish? Or better still why not have Coldwater, Freshwater Tropical, Marine and Other. Otherwise we will end up with lots of categories and no one will kno wwhere to look for anything. Just a suggestion...

Daragh.

All links and articles are sent to publishers for approval at the moment.

I will need to get a few people as publishers who will look after links and articles but while I am figuring it out, I will look after it.

I have added a catfish category and have approved your link

I have a question about the actual composition of articles in terms of images.

When the articles are hosted are they similar to a post with regards to embedding images and using the [img] type embedding or are the articles hosted as a HTML document and therefore do they require the associated script. I was pondering with doing a basic photography article and wanted to add image examples.

Regards

Denis

Lead me not into temptation, For I can find it myself!

can we have a look what people think should be in the articles on the one hand and what articles people are willing to write?
IMO, what we should have some basic things like cycling a tank, basic water chemistry and a glossary of fishkeeping terms.

Hi everybody

Sorry I'd dissappeared over the last couple of weeks. I'd changed my laptop over to Vista & upon resizing a partition I didn't realise that the power cord got pulled out by my dog & cat who were having a playful rampage. I've ended up with a hard drive full of corrupt data & it's taken me days to recover the stuff that was there before & I've still got a load of bad files left over.

I think it's only natural that Zig write about the higher tech planted aquariums & PPS Pro. I can deal with the low tech & Natural approach.

I did have a few articles written but guess what, they're unrecoverable

I've also decided to do an article on warning people about those certain plants in shops that are really houseplants or marginals. It's no wonder aquatic plants get a bad rep when so frequently people aren't even being sold true aquatics so there's not a hope of survival.<br><br>Post edited by: richardbunn, at: 2007/07/28 14:09

i dont see any reason why two people cant write articles on the same subject/fish. they might have had success by two different approaches or had different experiences with the same fish/method.

holger i look forward to your apistogramma articles

All users have a photo gallery in their user profiles, this could be used to post pics of tanks, fish ,etc

I'll also look into a site-wide gallery as well

Hi

I am making a call again for articles and content.
Here are some suggestions for content:
Aquascaping
Water Changes and Maintenance
Marine Filtration
Cold water Marines
Breeding your favorite fish

Anything that will be useful to beginners and even intermediate fish keepers, it does have to masses of scientific data, personal accounts are better, they will help beginners more than anything else.

Please, please, please, if you have an article, please put it up, email it to me This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or write it on a napkin, I'll type it.

If want to remain anonymous, you can even PM it to me and I'll not put up your name on the article.

All content and articles created by you are accessible via the \&quot;My Articles\&quot; button on the \&quot;User Menu\&quot; and you can add articles and content with that page.

Anyway to get more content on the website.

Please!!!!!!!
