Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi,
does anybody know if the new Petstore in Cork belongs to the same outfit as the one in Blanchardstown?
Had a look yesterday and promptly got stuck into a rep from a rather well known supplier talking through his backside. But that's a different story. No reflection on the shop itself. They just opened and aren't fully stocked yet, especially lacking in fish. Here's hoping for more fish.

hi where is this new pet shop? I am trying to set up a marine reef tank and I am finding it difficult to get good advice without goods I dont need being pushed on me! plus I find Cork very expensive for materials!!! I have looked online and even with postage it seems cheaper to buy in from America or England!:woohoo:

They don't do marines but try Fins and Things in Midleton. Glen's one of the sponsors of the forum and a sound bloke and as far as I know they have the biggest marine selection around.
BTW, would you be interested in joining the Southern Aquarists Society? Next meeting will be in January (details to follow)

I would definitely be interested in the society, I have been keeping tropical for 10 years so decided it was time to move onto the marines so need all the help I can get... keep me posted thanks!

No worries,
will keep you posted.
BTW called into Petstop today on my way home. They have a few more fish in now and their fish are very reasonably priced, red tailed sharks, pearl gouramis a fiver each, Malawis for between 5-7€ a pop. The guy I was talking to actually knew his stuff and told me they are slowly stocking up not to overload the filtration system. Glad to see it. All he needs to do is to lose that ManU jersey and put on a Munster one

Yes this is our second store, not the same size as our blanchardstown store, which is considerably bigger than the cork store.

Any stock that is listed for the blanchardstown store is available for the Cork shop, and i'll gladly put together specail orders for collection, as the system down there is still quite new...
keep a look out for new arrivals at PETSTOP BLANCHARDSTOWN:)

we'll gladly advertise your clubs in petstop, so any posters etc can be displayed in the store.

best regards,
Damien.

Could you post when you a new fish delivery is due in the Cork shop?
Thanks

Shop's fine. Very clean and the fish all looked healthy and were very reasonably priced. Could with another delivery of fish, though. What I would like to see are some showtanks. Just to show people what one can do with a bit of effort. Probably would also make it easier to sell some of the bigger tanks as well. More than willing to lend a helping hand in setting them up since I can't expand anymore in my house without risking instant divorce but like to get my fingers wet:) .
Hopefully they decide to expand the shop.
Best thing about it, it's on my way home from work
