Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

In response to your statements...ring me and we can have a chat!

Regarding Petstop if you feel things were done in an unfair manner Im sorry. All I did was help them make their shop better and get a 15% discount for all ITFS/LFKS/GAS/SAS members and improve the selection of fish for people willing to travel there.I kept all receipts of products bought there and let me assure you I pay the going rate.I was the ringleader in condemning them but not in promoting them upon their second coming so to speak. The people who visited the place did that!

If all you can do is jump to conclusions about us improving fishkeeping then so be it,Ill take that if its the price to pay for the improvements that have been made.

Regarding the power buzz Im on well your comments are fair.I put hours and hours of work in and I expect something back,at a minimum respect.Anything after that is a bonus.

If you want to get back to the fish side of things do so...thats the only way this mess will be forgotten.Put up some pics of your tank or something and get a real discussion going.

As far as Im concerned Im finished on the matter, the rest can be sorted over the phone or face to face, there is no need for it to be discussed further on this forum.

I am apologising to all the people who were put off or annoyed by this carry on but when you have so much invested and have worked so hard it is sometimes hard to back down.I only got involved in this thread late on and should have stayed out,but it was heated by then anyway. For my part I am sorry and can assure everyone I will keep on working to make the forum a better place.

Excellent Post Chris really happy to see that, apologies for any offence i caused you. Petstop thing kinda annoyed me because of the state the place was in previously, fair play to them for getting there act together, sponsering our forum and giving members 15% off, and if you are willing to help them out they are in good hands and i'm sure future standards will be nothing to worry about. Keep up the good work man.

I have been out all evening, I left my PC logged in so it looks like I have been here and keeping up with the posts, but I wasn't.

There have been several phone calls backwards and forward between members and I would like to ask EVERYONE to please let this matter rest. Please revert back to fishkeeping posts and do not further fuel these long runnin threads that do nothing to benefit the forum. No one is ever going to have the last word on this, matters will be resolved and that will happen offline, not here despite everyones good intentions.

So please fishkeeping posts only, no exceptions. ChrisM will be here in a moment to request the same thing. We are jointly requesting members focus their attention on the forum for what it is, a place to discuss fish.

I never meant to imply Chris had sabotaged the forum and Chris and myself have sorted it out.
We all want to re-new our focus on content and education.
We are looking for new ways to increase education.
I hope everybody else will help us in our goal to make the website into an excellent resource for all fish keepers.

Sorry I have not been in touch as I was visiting non-computer oriented relatives for the weekend.

PLEASE, let us all get together and continue developing the forum with fish related topics and a bit of craic!

If anyone has any idea to improve the forum or to add to the educational content, don't hesitate to contact any of us !

Kindest regards,

Thank God thats over, or at least its on the mend.
Lets have a clearing of the air people (in private or at the next LFKS meet) and let that be that.

I have had my own share of fish related problems over Christmas and felt totally alone.
I felt it would have been pointless posting on here for a start, imagine how this would have looked to fresh blood hanging around reading.

03:10 am and I want to go to bed, what would make me really happy (and a lot of other people too I am sure) is that when I log in tomorrow that the 5 most recent posts on the right of the home page relate to fishkeeping.

All the main players in the latest fiasco have asked for this thread to stop, there is nothing more to be added, please please can we immediately revert to fishkeeping, there is nothing to be gained by adding any more here.

PS. That line is my humble attempt at closing this thread, those admin facilities were handy sometimes :P
