Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

This is just an item for discussion with the two shows coming off this year, would something like this be a good idea????

Mini-Show

Here is an opportunity for all you budding Judges and Breeder to show off your talents.

This is what I am talking about, members bring their fish along to the monthly meetings and they are judged by our IFAS Judges and our Probationary Judges. This will let the people showing their fish, know how near the standard they are, and it will also allow the Probationary Judges see a variety of fish so they can home their skills.

Everybody is a winner, the contestants will get an idea at what stage they are in their breeding and fishkeeping, and this should give them an idea about how they might do in a ‘IFAS Show’. They will be judged as per a IFAS Show and placed as follows.

Points are cumulative and will be awarded as follows:
Ø 1st Place: 10 points
Ø 2nd Place: 8 points
Ø 3rd Place: 6 points
Ø 4th Place: 4 Points
Ø All other entries receive: 2 points

A prizes can be awarded at the last meeting of that year or the first of the following year. Maybe one of the sponsors who are not slagged off too much could offer a good prize at the end of the year which might encourage people to participate in the Mini-Show and this in turn might encourage people to go to these shops and get some new stock.

A small number of show tanks could be brought to the meetings to facilitate members. The only reason I have so many different fish so fast is our upcoming shows, you can mix and match or even add more classes e.g. Planted tanks etc. This Mini Show could be at the ITFS meeting one month and the LFKS the next month if agreeable with Judges and clubs.

What do you all think?

The list below is only for discussion???

Great Idea Tom.
Let's hope it gets the interest it deserves, this will help those new to the hobby in what to look out for and enable them to make informative decisions when purchasing. also it will certainly gain popularity especialy friendly rivalry between clubs. with club winners going head to head yearly.

An excellent idea, I was only suggesting that to someone recently. It would add extra interest to meetings even for those that don't participate. It also gives everyone a chance to bench a fish before the shows, I had never benched a fish before the last show and it would have been great to have something like this to see what is involved etc.

This will be discussed at the next ITFS meeting so try and get along, otherwise details will be posted here after the meeting. We will need an idea of how many tanks are required etc. This table show will be at the ITFS meeting in April, nice practice with the show coming up in May. Derek Doyle and Phil Kearney, IFAS judges, will judge.

The LFKS are planning a similar show, details here: www.irishfishkeepers.com/cms/component/o...d,55/id,31901/#31901
so now you get get even more practice and show at both clubs :-)
