Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

The admins are proposing new rule changes that will come into effect for 1st January 2010 for sponsors and member of the forum
They rules are:
For Sponsors:
1. Sponsorship should be in the forum of 10% discount for forum members
2. Sponsors should donate at least 1 prize a year for forum competitions with a value of at least €50.
3. Sponsors have to update their forum every month, if after 3 months, they have not updated, their forum will be removed and we assume they are no longer want to sponsor the forum.
4. Sponsors will be allowed to post prices in their lisitings but not anywhere else on the forum.
5. Sponsors should contribute towards the cost of the forum, and this annual fee should be around €25 who cover the cost of hosting and administrator's expenses.
6. Sponsors who in the opinion of the admins have complete disregard for their livestock will be removed from the forum.
7. Administrators reserve the right to accept sponsorship and change the terms and conditions of such sponsorship.

For members:
1. Members will be allowed to post prices from any retailer where online or not
2. Members will be allowed to post any substantiated comments on any sponsor as long as comments are not libelous.

Lar,
Members will be able to post prices from any retailer regardless.
However the old rules regarding sponsors posting prices into other forums will still apply by they can refer back to their forum for prices.
All members associated with a retailer will not be allowed to post prices if their associated retailer does not sponsor the forum.

Just so I understand this properly:

Sponsors can only post prices in their own section, members can post prices of goods from any shop anywhere on the forum.

So the sponsors, even though they contribute to the forum financially will be restricted. What incentive is there to be a sponsor?

What's to stop a Sponsor setting up as a "forum user" and simply plugging their prices in various threads? How could you prove that they are associated with a shop?

Smoke me a Kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast.

fair point Peter. I always think the best thing to do is check what other bigger fish boards do( like UK or USA).
