Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

The Herpetological Society of Ireland has opened its 2010 Photo Competition.{their first ever competition}

The competition is open to all, and the scope of subject matter is fairly large (not just reptiles)

First prize is a super prize of a course with a Wildlife Photographic school.

If anyone is interested in looking at the competition, then contact me and I'll supply the Website address (as I'm not sure if I can post a web-link on this forum).

One of the aims of the Society constitution is support artwork; this competition not only seeks a winner but also seeks to showcase and support animal photography in general. The competition hopes to encourage new-comers to photography by supplying some hints-n-tips for anyone new to photography.

Hi Ian,

Posting links is, to the best of my knowledge, fine. At least I have done it and not had to experience the wrath of the mods. I have also been sent links via posts from other members and again, nothing said. If memory serves, I believe it mentions in the rules that if you post something yous should include references, so I guess that would include links too.

Ian,
I think that for the time being it will be best for you to conduct this by Personal Message.

I have added the Competition Link.
Looks to be a good Competition, I might get my camera out of mothballs for that.

had some queries, but early days yet.....and early days can often end up being close to the closing date of the 17th March if we allow too many rising suns creep up on us.

And....here's a bit....I was actually about to quote a line from a Pink Floyd song (Time) but decided to alter it a bit...then I noticed the line at the bottom of your signature John after posting. :)

He has been responsible for some really great lyrics down the years - I really hoped the get-together for Live8 was going to be the start of a new Floyd era, but it wasn't to be...and never could now, with the sad passing of Rick Wright.

Oops, I digressed there, absolutely inappropriate for a Fishkeeping Forum!!!

I had made a small typo in the initial post.

The First section read…

The Herpetological Society of Ireland have announced its 2010 Photography Competition with a great first prize of…

Day course in Wildlife Photography with The Wildlife Film School in County Cork

Should read…

The Herpetological Society of Ireland have announced its 2010 Photography Competition with a great first prize of…

A 2 Day course (food and accommodation included) in Wildlife Photography or Film Making with The Wildlife Film School in County Cork

Closing Date 17th March 2010

Ian,
I was wondering...(careful)...for the benefit of both myself and other Forum members, can we submit an image which has been previously entered into an ITFS Forum Photo Competition?

For anyone interested, I checked the rules of this Competition and find that only images which have been awarded a Prize on that - or another - site, or in a Competition like our Forum one are unacceptable as entries.
I hope this clears up the confusion for everyone (and me).
