Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Just a quick note, www.petshoponline.ie are giving 20% off everything this month. Might be a good time to get any food or equipment etc that you have been waiting to get.

I just checked their homepage and it only mentions the 10% discount for premium customers, or is it automatically deducted from the final bill?

Have anyone bought fish from these guys ?. I know in another thread the pros and cons wre being discussed and someone was thinking of giving it a try.

It does indicate "20% of" - beside the pic of the kids with the dogs

i haven't got any fish yet because the selection is very small at the moment, they are building a shop beside their warehouse to sell fish and live plants so hopefully they will get in a bigger selection soon. as regards the discount it is given when you put the item to your basket.

yea i've got a few orders off them. from my experience they are very good. my order has always been delivered within 3 days. the azoo tropical fish foods are good value and my fish took to them very quickly. i was feeding them tetra foods before but they are alot more expensive and the quality is the same.

I bought a book from them.
I was going to buy fish but they sold out. It is just as good as a petshop as the fish are coming from Ireland so no overstays in cold warehouses.
They are bagged and sent out straight away as far as I know.

Thanks, I found it after. The trouble here is my connection speed is a bit slower than normal so complete pages take such a long time to load that I tend to 'move on' before it's completed!

As Anthony suggested about Waterford...the same applies here too: "Broadband is just wide elastic" - eircom won't bother about upgrading little country exchanges until all the big ones are done - it's a theory of mine that my local exchange will probably be the last one to be done!!! - And being 'So Old' I fear it won't be done before I shuffle off this mortal coil and become an ex-John (apologies to John Cleese).

Anyway unfortunately I had already ordered a dog flap just before the 20% came in but I still got the 10% Premium Customers discount and that was very promptly delivered. Since seeing your posting about the February discount I sent for some foods and a couple of books too, as it went over the €30 threshold it was all postage paid too! - I'm looking forward to receiving it all some time early next week.

I purchased a tank and cabinet off them two days ago. Couldn't let that 20% go coz the tanks can be expensive otherwise. Managed to save 100 euro by buying when I did.

They are fast and efficient with their e-mails too. Katherine (I think) has managed to reply to my messages within a few hours which is great.

I like them already! :D

I have signed up for premium customer status...how does that work then...do i pay for anything?

no you don't have to pay anything. basicly if you buy something once a month for 6 months (the value of the purchase doesn't matter) they will give you the 10% discount for life. I got it much faster after 3 purchase i got the discount but they were 3 within the same month so you can try that if you like.

I bought 3 Parrot Fish from them and they were very healthy, think it was a man called Frank who delivered them..? I had ordered the Parrot Fish before I even knew that they weren't a naturally occuring fish, but I give them a good home anyway so thought to hell with it! Petshoponline is amazingly good value I think..? I have to pay 1000 euro for a certain tank down here and it's 595 on there ;) I think I'm puttin the message across that Wexford is crap for aquariums etc!

In the interest of fairness Aquatic Village also give discount to bona fide ITFS members. :D I think other retailers also make this concession but I don't think any of the others offering discount do mail order. (If I'm wrong...sorry)

Yeap they deliver mostly on the weekend. I was asked if I was available on Saturday or Sunday to accept delivery. Seems they like to stick to delivering at weekends!!
