Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I'm coming back.....!!!

Welcome back Alan - it's good to have you back,
We were wondering why you had abandoned us.
They do say that a change is as good as a rest - but I am biased, Apistos would be the way to go, in my estimation.

Hey Alan, welcome back. I remember your previous setup well, very impressive. Ive moved on from the SA's for the time being also, and took the salty route. Nice to see an "old school" user back on the boards ;) .

Go for it bro. The system is my 400ltr tank I kept my SA's in. I keep some big predators in it. A dogface puffer, a niger trigger and a one of the smaller morays. The puffer reminds me of my Oscar, very clever fish. I hope to put a harlequin tuskfish in soon. Although I do miss the big cichlids, especially my Oscar and Terror, I dont see myself going back any time soon. I still keep a small lido 120 freshie setup with barbs and small loaches.

Was out tonight looking at the tank its a shade over 4ft but its 2ft deep which i really like, giving me alot of opinions to work with and having a sump ill have no epuipment in the tank at all.

The plan is to run four 54watt T's. Was thinking of gettin a twin unit and two single units. Not sure on what types of colour i should go with, would really like something that will show off the colours of the fish.

Was thinking 1 day light, 1 natural, one blue/purple or maybe 2 daylight would that work or is there another combo i could use....?

Has a few.....!!!!

1) With my PH being around 7.3-7.6 running a co2 system with a co2 controller will lower ph PH and keep it stable level say 6.6 which is i need for the fish i want to keep. Planning on a SA setup up so low PH is a must

2) Also Co2 is great for planted tanks which i plan on doing.

Running co2 is a great way to lower your PH and KH and using a Co2 controller will keep them at a constant level all the time. If i wish to change lower or raise the Ph this is the easiest way. No meesing with chemicals or adding peat, resins or salts, its all done by Co2 and the controller.

Will do, was thinking of starting a blog about it.

Seen mouthbrooding apisto on a sponsors list, something like that would be great to have its just alittle bit different.
