Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I had a similar thought with the trigon 190 in our place, but my little fella would do his nut!!!!(its his tank now)
Might eventually buy him a 350 to match mine at some stage and then use the 190 for marine

Just remember every litre of water equates to a kilo weight plus tank rock and substrate
Os there will be over 200kg on the cabnite when you fill the tank!!!
Perhaps a bit of bracing would be a sensible option?
Even just a central support (door jam) at the front in the centre?

But this is just an opinion and have no experience designing or building aquarium cabinets, you might want to get someone to double check this for you.

I merely looking at the cabnite from an engineering point of view and wondering whats going to support it at the doors.... you dont want to have the top bow and end up using your doors as support (you cant open them in this case) cause the hinges are not strong!!!!
I had to do a job on my 350 cabnite cause the hinge got damaged by a 20 litre container falling out of my hand when i was lifting it to put clean water into the tank

And can you close the doors? .....I agree with the lads about the centre support but if the sump can go back some more then you could just put the centre piece back in.
Ger
Actually on another look you are really squeezed for space in there............is the tank in the picture the one your using as the sump?

Something like this
Another way of doing is to leave this as they were originally and then split the sump in two part, one on each side and then communicate them with PVC, similar to customer sumps made for the RSM250
Something like this

What I was going to suggest was building a small plinth at the back of the cabnite the same height as the sump, (with a channel thru it for the origional centre support to sit into) then "notching the centre support to slide in around the sump (over the top into the plinth and down to the floor) to keep a full spectrum of support the entire length of the top piece.....
but it looks like you have it sorted.....
sorry if my suggestion opened a can of worms for you, but i would rather say these things out loud and everyone to give an opinion rather than say nothing and see someone have a disaster a bit down the line!!!
I took your plans as a bit of insentive and shelved my plans for a while!!! Ill pickup another trigon and go marine with that instead of starting small and having to upgrade
so thanks for the inspiration

Not a scrape or scratch in sight!
Liking the plans so far, all seems very well thought out! Well done!
Something to be careful of with the trigon as well tho is water flow and rock placement!
I have 2 powerheads in my 350 and sometimes I think I should put a 3rd in as there are normally a few dead spots in the water flow!

I never thought about that at all nice one pal I'll pick up a light in the next few days for itYou should put a small light into the cabnite so that when your working on the sump the light comes on to let you see what your doing!!!!
