Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Ok,
When I first layed eyes on a members fish house I knew o had to follow suit!
I had a 10ft x 8ft skip(concrete shed ;)) felt roof!
Rammed with junk.
Decided enough was enough and ordered a skip(real one this time)
And gutted the shed bare,
4 walls, door and a window.
Priced the materials for the job and worked out around
€400 for insulated plaster boards, mushrooms and slab screws and washers.
Happy enough with that price.
Done all the slabs myself so I paid myself well with a few new fish tanks for the work done,
Still work in progress here's some photos of a week ago.

Good stuff,

There is not that many fish room builds shown here, will be very interesting to follow this one.

It looks like you saved quite a bit by doing so much work on your own. Well worth it, it looks like.

Best of luck with the project,

Andreas

Quick update!
Have all but one of the tanks filled and filters matured,
Got some pallet racking to stack the tanks and positioned
For easy enough access,

Have a 16watt boyu air pump running all the sponge filters and
Water softeners!
Hopefully have all the fish in at the end of the week.
Also have it plumbed for heat and will have a rad on the wall before
The cold weather sets in,hopefully that will keep the electric bill down.
Theres about a 5 or 6 degree temperature difference as is atm
So I'm happy enough with that!

Also got this monster to keep up with water changes!

Did you insulate the roof ?
I would have thought a light bulb would heat the room
with it all insulated ?

Have the roof and 4 walls done,
Just put the rad in for economy and on the off
Chance of another cold snap.

tbh there wasn't much in it,there had been an old oil burner
Out in the shed that had been feeding the house,
So it was just a matter of reconnection of the old pipes to the main
Heating circuit
Couple of valves in the shed and where I connected
In the house,
And a free rad off adverts and bobs your squarepants
Altogether took me around an hour labour,
Still haven't paid myself for that yet
