Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi

Our Wild red bellied Piranha are in the process of spawning again there are 4 groups guarding eggs at the moment this time i will raise them in times past we never bothered but i cannot resist.....i am thinking of raising the fry in a 6000 litre heated pond....can you imagine 500 piranha swimming about in that......now thats extreme fishkeeping....i was going to keep the arapiama there.......may have to tweak my plans a little....may even build a little bridge over the pond so i have a walkway..........no handrails....yes!

That enough planning for me gotta save the fry!

You could also throw a special garden party for some politicians (ex or otherwise).

You also need to arrange a video of the spawning (a video of the pandemonium on the piranha bridge can come later).

Well done again.

It would be cheaper to feed the piranhas on reps and politicians than keep the guard dogs hmmmmmmm

I think i will try and raise as many as i can just for the pure hell of it.It's gonna take a hell of a lot of work though purely because of the nature of the beast.Imagine raising 1000 of them that would e a humungos achievement plus imagine how exciting that would be........imagine looking through the glass and seeing a thousand sets of hungry eyes staring back at you!!!!!I wonder could i get my hands on the skeleton of a cow....cure it and varnish it and have it the centre piece......that my dears is extreme decoration at its finest .....i think i will google how to cure the skeleton of a cow.....should be interesting....but the first thing i need to do is to prevent the hatch beeing sucked into the external filters...will have to do something today for sure god actually knows when the hatch will begin i'm not even sure when it all started...this will if nothing else be interesting....mountains of daphina needed...bad timing though the daphina will be in decline as temp starts to drop out side...i may even take the viv camera to work and get started on a rake of new ideas......extreme fishkeeping has a real sweet ring to it....i think i like it.

By the way i may have pictures of 'the goonch' on tuesday according to my man...thats handy considering they are arriving the next day...

Ian if you can stop the external and place a large sponge filter around it you can prevent the fry being sucked up, but mind your hands guarding piranha are very very vicious, as for a cow skeleton i'm sure a local abittoir will have loads of carcass's you could scavange as for varnishing it wouldnt know about that but thats what google is for;)
