Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I need your help

If you set a camera in the car park you might catch the 'gentlemen' who keep dumping in it - I hope you don't have one in the toilet though!!!

Live feed of stock sounds great especially for those buying online. Live feed of your customers not sure on that.

Can you clarify how you would like the votes cast, just replies or PMs or what?

I agree with Q_Comets on this one. Anything that shows fish; streams, videos & pictures is great. Especially for us who travel for fish.

Would not like to see myself on the internet though

Hope you have legal waiver forms ready for all those customers you plan on filming to sign, or you plan on paying them for their participation in your advertising. Big NO from me. Film the fish, sure.

I recon this could be the Irish version of "Fish Tank Kings"........."Fish Tank Drama Queens".
I'm game, and wouldn't mind a starring role.

Streaming just fish???......just boring, we want the guts of an aquatic shop on video: the people. :D

it will be warts and all no editing.......i just have to get me head around the logistics of it i may need the help of a few I.T people so any on here know how we are gonna put this thing together....ive even thought of a name.....The Village........with no expletives......

The other day a beautiful woman came into the shop to buy fish for her husband as a suprise he is a barrister and she was well to do but very nice....she was immaculate ie hair done make up perfect...we were standing by the redtail tank talking about stuff and havin a laugh until the redtail does a tail swipe and sends about 2 gallons of water over her head.....i pissed my self....i actually fell about the place....it was hilarious...i'm so sorry......she stood there gasping with her hair dripping and her mascara melting down her face......oh my god was that funny.......anyway fair play to her she was a legend she took it all in her stride and laughed it off.....what a moment and nobody but me got to see it!!!!The good ol Village up the Village!

So you are going to go ahead and stream people on the internet, showing their faces, without their permission, essentially using them in your advertising without informing or paying them?

Somehow I don't think I should have been surprised.

You are in very murky legal water if you continue.

+1 to what Belueberry said...

Also please do consider you would be putting off a lot of customers who wouldn't like to be on the interweb for all and sundry to see...

A simple trial run with bright yellow signs that the entire premises is covered by CCTV broadcast live on the net... on a busy weekend will give you an idea whether this idea is good for your business or not.

Fish yes... Customers NO...!

as said advertise at the gate, those who think with their pockets should so be well informed so they know whats going on. they will either enter at their own risk or go elsewhere.
to be honest it wouldn't bother me and i don't think it would be my ugly mugg that catches the attention of viewers

I no problem with that as well... just Im wondering do your broadband will make it... from far what I know, you will need it stable connection for streaming... doesn't need to be super fast broadband but stable :)
As you know Ian your shop is different then the other ones so you will be first who will get camera, then everybody else will have it lol ;)
Good luck with the project, I will keep the finger cross for it ;)

savage idea mate!! thumbs up from me, all you have to do is put up signs to let customers know that everything is being filmed, if they don't want to be filmed then they don't have to go in!!!!

+2 !

also - even though you can disclaim all you want for adults, that wont suffice for broadcasting children - that's why even the paparazzi blur the faces of the junior Beckhams etc.

Like the idea, especailly regarding the fish - just think you'll run into problems with the humans
