Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Interesting guy!

Hi All!
The other day i guy comes into the shop wearing dark glasses.I said hello as you do and we chatted for a bit.Nothing unusual there. So i asked him to follow me into the fish house and he did.I walked by a bucket of water which i was just about to use for a water change when he tripped and fell over it.I said to him ‘Man are you blind or something?’
Guess what his answer was.....boody typical....he replied ‘Yes i am blind’
So here we go again i thought to myself..does God do this just to torment me...
Anyway without missing a beat i got stuck in with all the questions. It turned out that in 2006 as he was leaving a bank in Ashbourne he was attacked and robbed by 3 men.He told me he fought back instead of handing them the money and as a result they beat him with iron bars. One guy pulled out a gun and put it to his head as another shouted ‘Kill him he has seen us’
He said they beat him so hard that his eye was so damaged that it is now held in place using elastics and air bubbles....it doesn’t really help he told me.He remembered the sureality of watching people hurry away clearing a space all around him whilst he was being assaulted.I could almost close my eyes so vivid was his description,i was there.
So three scumbags scarred this man for life because he stood up for himself. No one helped as he got beaten.Wow i thought to myself what a great guy.I asked him about what he des for a living he repied that he works with horses. In fact two of the horses he worked with went to the Olympics.....i said no frickin way....he smiled.I told the guy he was a legend and trust me he was.

So i gave him a loyalty card he was chuffed 20 percent off is 20 percent off i said.He thanked me and then left.I heard the car engine start up and i thought to my self ....no way!

He also told me the other day the cops pulled him on the m50 for driving too slowly......His reply was that he was in no rush...fair comment.
So i guess the nextime i am stuck behind a slow driver i have this story to remember.Every day there is a life lesson to be learned but only the smart folk ever learn them......the next time i meet him for he told me he would definitely be back i am goin to quizz him some more about his daily life. What an interesting guy.

Another typical day at Aquatic Village where we care for our customers in our own quirkey little way.
Please like and share this post by me it’s a true story and one of many i will post up in the future.
Relationships start in the weirdest ways i reckon we will be good friends!

Ian,
Have moved this from 'Introduce Yourself' section to your own one as it's more appropriate there.

His eye is being held in with elastics and air bubbles.
