Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Ok i have had a new thought on the arapiama thing...and i think this is a point for all to consider....as i said we are buying 4 arapiama farm that raises arapiama for food purposes. If i buy 4 specimens and go through all the hassle of shiping them and rehousing them am i not saving these individuals from certain death....think long and hard about your answer before you give it....these fish will be resold to fish venders for the table....or they can go to aquatic village in ireland to be reared with pride by people who love keeping fish........this is not a stunt...people writing on these forums have made this monster and it is up to me to point out the facts...the central poignant facts...they will be kept for public interest and not for profit and if they become to much to handle then we will find suitable homes for them this is i promise...
This is all i can say on the matter...this is not and i mean not a publicity stunt...i only posted up the list you guys went on the rampage and its a pity its taken this turn.
Cheers

:)
I know ur being funny and i did smile there...but you have a good point if i said i was bringing them in to raise then eat i wonder what the opions would be i should think i would be shot....but its a fair point you have made...cows have to go through it and so do half the animals on the planet...in other countries the fish we sell are eaten for food on a grand scale...
Cheers

i'd say if you do have a concern (and it shows that you care about the final welfare of the animal) about possibly rehoming these, then you want to find a suitable aquaworld first or build the facility yourself before importing them. you never know, this could be the start of you having a aquaworld in brittas next to the shop ;)

You rarely get an opportunity to see fish reach their real age in this hobby, I don't mean Tetras I mean Real Fish, If you can do it Ian , go for it, what you do is your business, this is , after all a democracy, even after Fianna Failed !

I can understand the normal punter being concerned as lots of mistakes have been made since the airing of Finding Nemo etc with the wrong Fish getting into the wrong hands and idiots buying FIsh as a novelty like Pirhanna etc only to have mayhem occur in the Tank, Fish die because of incorrect conditions etc. I think the error occurs when the buyer doesn't give a moments effort to research the requirements of the newly purchased Animals.

For display or educational, purposes definitely, to sell to people with a track record of keeping large specimens etc , of course but for the idiot who wants to be the first to have a specimen to show off to their friends a definite No !

I don't mean Tetras I mean Real Fish

a tad bit harsh on the oul tetra lovers there my beloved Kev

the more i try picture this the more i keep thinking it might be a bit to much to take on, i understand that you will be getting it small and can grow it but you have to consider wat might be waiting around the finanical corner, wat in ten year wen this thing is stretching the scales, no one can be sure business will be flourishing i'm not sure on your financial background but it would be a huge commitment if business went belly up and i don't think it would be fair hauling a huge fish across the globe if it is eating arapiama sized hole in your bank account on a weekly basis

i love the idea, i think it is fantasic and if you pull it off you will be the toast of the aquatic world and your begrudgers will be eating humble pie and sneaking away from their bogus names and avatars to sneak a peek

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic
