Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I was out there on Saturday and they had T.Moori Moliro, around 15 I think?

Price was around normal for Tropheus, usually double or treble for what you would pay for any Malawi of a similar size.

In my experience of Tropheus they usually sell for 2 or 3 times a similar size Malawi would sell for.T's produce less fry than Malawis (which breed easily and in high numbers) and are harder to breed and require specialist setups to breed them.I spotted one of the T's was holding but as she was a young mother she swallowed when Damo and I tried to catch her.Their higher expense is highly justified as they dont travel well (long distances where temp and water quality fluctuates) and are always sought after.

I have seen T's sell for over 80euro per fish. This is more down to rarity of the fish than anything else.

IMO Moliro are among the nicest coloured T's. T's labeled as sp. Red are actually not Moori, they are undescribed and commonly known as species red...Lupota,Ndole .....

Of the batch of T's that came in to Petstop I can safely say they were top class and I have not seen any other shop display such nice Tropheus.I have actually seen far far worse in places but that was a few years ago.LFS actually protect their investments now :)

I agree with you Chris about the stock of Tropheus in the shop at the moment. I was out there on Saturday afternoon to have a look at the plant selection and the fish in question all looked in great health, well fed and very active. I'm now itching to get back into keeping African cichlids.

Thanks for info, the biggest prob is not the fish but the dreaded red cow roundabout & the M50. will try to get up there sometime.

Hi Russell,

There are several ways to get to Rome ... :-)
Just sent you an email showing an itinerary avoiding the 'magic' roundabout.

Kindest regards,
Valerie

Hey Chris,
Thanks for the offer but hopefully I'm only back for a short while so it wouldnt be fare to setup a tank only to strip it down in a few months time. I will try and make the meeting but I'm going to be in Carlow for the day and wont be back till late. However, I shall try and get there but I'm most likely wont be able to pop in and see the fish beforehand.

Regards

Denis
