Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

SO...my first suggestion is to have a multi-person talk on Breeding.
Maybe....Derek to talk on breeding a species or group of species';
perhaps Darren (Platy) to give some insights into his work;
and I'm happy to offer doing a bit on practical breeding of Siamese Fighting fish (and no science

Being rather bold, I have a few suggestions.....but maybe a good one would be one that is informative to keepers and doesn't put too much of stress on people doing a presentation to work on talk in short notice and off the top of their heads....

and I'm happy to offer doing a bit on practical breeding of Siamese Fighting fish (and no science) (and I'd even offer to bring along a few fish for people to look at...maybe depending on any prior appointments). I could alternatively swap talking about fighters for talking about breeding Poison Dart Frogs even.

Or an alternative (even better) idea is to have similar to the above, but also open a slot for someone who would like to give a talk but hasn't ever done one previously to give their experiences on breeding....that way, there is no big single talk for them to stress over.

great idea ian if you could bring along the bettas that would be great ,anyone else interested or have any problems they would like disscussed.as always new members always welcome
john
I will do. I'll probably bring along a Plakat, extended red half-moon, and maybe a pastel lilac and blue veiltail (so I'll have to get their travel tanks ready).
To save me doing slides etc, I'll go through the practical methods in breeding Siamese Fighting Fish (and that will no doubt include keeping them), and will touch on hints on selective/line breeding.
And....as John Gannon askes.....anyone else like to stand-up (or sit-down) and talk?

thanks for the very interesting presentation at such short notice ian. really enjoyed it, and particularly liked the piece on line breeding as it was very easy to follow with the computer graphic aid.
Cheers Derek.
A very good audience as well.
Ive put a post of the bare powerpoint animations on www.irishfishkeepers.com/index.php/fforu...rpoint-upload#102152
the animations are click prompted.
I've also added a few lines in the notes against each slide.....not many notes though.
