Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

After a break for the “Summer” holidays the monthly meetings are back, Tuesday 9th September in Rosie O’Gradys Harold’s Cross at 8:30.

Following the success of the last table show, won by Darren Dalton with a Kluhi loach we are holding another at the September meeting.

Entry is free and there will be a prize for the winner.

Would you like to enter? It is all very simple, good fun and interesting too. What do you need to do?

Very simple, just bring along a healthy specimen or two, or three that you would like to enter. Bring an extra bag of your own tank water which will mean the fish will be in it’s own tank water for the evening. The tanks will be provided. Most of the tanks are 12” x 8” x 8” (or 30 x 20x 20cm) so you would need to bring about a gallon (5 litres) of water for each fish. A small quantity of dechlorinated water will be available on the night too.

A few smaller tanks are also available and if required a larger tank can be provided. If you have your own suitably sized glass tank bring it along.

Judging: Derek Doyle and Phil Kearney will be judging and afterwards will give some feedback on why certain fish scored well or otherwise.

Benching a fish for a show is not difficult and if you have never done it before, this is an excellent way to prepare for a major show.

Please PM me to confirm the size and number of tanks required so that there will be enough tanks and space available. If you have any questions, please PM me for my phone number.

Also at the meeting this month will be some more information on photographing fish, posting photos on the internet or to the forum, so please bring along your camera too.

Not sure what you mean? If you want to use a tank that you have made for to show a fish, sure as long as it is glass.

You have my number if that is not what you meant - give me a call.

Looking forward to this meeting. The last table show was really good and very interesting from the point of view of how fish are marked and what makes a good show fish and what doesnt.

Thanks to Phil and Derek in advance. See you all there.
