Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Daragh,
I was toying with the idea of popping across to the City for the next meeting, perhaps you might give me a little more of a run-down on how the Mini-Show will be organised?
Presumably entrants would turn up with fish and there will be tanks available to exhibit them in? Or would we be needing to fetch our own tanks along?

Will water be available or would we have to fetch our own along?

I think this is a very good idea of yours to renew this competion, it will be very good to give those who have not entered Fish Contests before a real insight into the way they're run and how the fish are judged...last year's Show was great and these smaller Mini-Shows could be a great build-up for the next one...hopefully next year? And a 50 quid voucher should be incentive enough for anyone to compete for.

John

There are a number of tanks available, but anyone wnats me to bring one for them needs to contact me and I will bring the correct size, I don't want to be washing tanks and loading and unloading them if they are not going to be used. I have had a few people book tanks already, which is great. I will bring a couple spare in case anyone forgets to contact me.

Ideally bring your own watr, it is less stressful for the fish, but I will bring a couple of gallons of neutral water that has been dechlorinated and heated, just in case.

he last night was good craic with a few unusual entries and all were lovely fish.

Hope you can make the trip, let me know if you need directions.

Well done to Daragh and Ioan for winning! :)

When is the next table-show ? I'll defo book that day and come up. I'd love to know more about the way the fish are assessed.

Daragh, what is the name of the winning fish ?

And Platy252 ame third too, don't forget him :-)

Next table show is not likely to be until March next year, due to weather. The water was pretty cold by the time we were leaving and packing up the other night. Ideally I would like to try and have three table shows a year, but we need more people bringing fish. About 20 fish would be ideal.

Platy252 can tell you more about teh judging as he has sat in with the judges for the last tow tables shows and alot of the main show last year, I know size is a big factor, that's why my guy won. It is Oligancistrus Sp. L354 - so undescribed. The expect tank lenght is 100mm excluding tail, he is 110mm excluding tail, so would have been ful marks on size to start with.

I have a L354 female about half the size, hopefully one day they will get it together. As far as I can find ther has only been one successful spawning of these, I saw a couple of pictures but no details of who, where, how or when.
