Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Another month comes by so quickly, REMINDER at this months meeting Daragh Owens will be doing a presentation on some of his fish, below is a note about the July meeting recently posted by John Gannon...

Just a quick note on what happened at the last meeting, Derek Doyle brought 2 killifish species, 2 west african cichlids and some shrimp for all to view and he also did a very interesting and informed talk on all of the above, i.e. habitat, breeding habits etc. An excellent night was had and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Derek on behalf of myself and the ITFS for all his input and hard work over the years. Thanks

At next months meeting another of our highly regarded members - Daragh Owens, will be bringing some fish/SHRIMP and doing a talk on them which I am sure will be another excellent evening, everybody is welcome so i hope to see you there
john

Tuesday 10th August at 8.30pm in the upstairs meeting room of Rosey O Gradys Pub, Harolds Cross, Dublin 6.

By all accounts the summer has brought a lot of aquarium breeding activity - if the posts on the forum are anything to go by, some surprises and some planned. A lot of the regular meeting attendees have years of experience in all manner of fishkeeping and the chance to ask questions openly and get an experienced reply is invaluable in helping to raise your new found fry or indeed entice your tankmates to spawn. In fact some club members have been the first to spawn and even raise some species in a tank environment.

I must see if there is a way of broadcasting our meeting - or even the highly informative presentations - now that would add something special to the forum and the meetings :) :) :) :)

Please let ke know if there is anything specific you would like to find out about, my PM is always open.

New forum members are always welcome to come along - I will be bringing along a bundle of membership forms if you want to join the club on the night, there is a link to the form on my signature below if you want to download, print off and bring with you.

Feel free to pm me

Last night's meeting was another great success.

Much kudos and thanks go to Daragh Owens for enthralling us with his knowledge and experience in keeping Corydoradinae (the corydoradinae sub-family consists of, among others, the genera Aspidoras, Brochis, and Corydoras). We all learnt a lot last night, especially on the breeding habits and trials and tribulations that goes with keeping these in tanks. Hopefully some photos of the fish he brought along and displayed will be up on the forum along with an article about the talk he gave, I really liked the Q&A session.

The raffle this month had 3 prize-winners and a few new faces came along, hello Jim & Feargal.

We also had a discussion about Hayling Island and the forthcoming FBAS Festival of Fishkeeping in October (for more information please PM either "goldy" or myself).

The next meeting in September already has some planning on the go, more details will follow closer to the day (Tuesday September 14th), so there's no excuse to not come along.
