Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Endlers Livebearers- fry (groups)
2 x female Fundulopanchax Gardneri

looks like some choice fish being offered so far.
I won't say which ones I would be most interested in though.

Johney has asked me to suggest he can bring some (or all) of his young Jaguar Cichlids, but would really know whether there would be sufficient interest in them.
So, he is hoping for any indications from attendees as to whether it will be worth his while.
Please either post here, or send him (IevaStar) or myself a PM if you would like to see them brought.

Hi Seamus

We will try and put up a definitive post from all of the lists below on Saturday night, though we know from experience that people often don't tell us what they are bringing and just turn up on the day with their stock. The whole advantage of pre-informing us via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or through this thread is that we can publish a "lot" listing as at XX time on XX day and this helps build the interest in what people are bringing for sale.

In the interim why not subscribe to this thread, at least when replies come in you'll get an email about it

Gedas has asked me to post for him that he will be trying to make it to the Auction on Sunday and if he can make it he will bring some of/or all of his Discus.
However, he would like to gauge if there would be the interest in them - it's a bit of a way for him to travel from Cavan and he wouldn't want to be bringing them over (if he is able to come) only to have to fetch them back again afterwards.
any interest?

By all means come and outbid me - all the more commission for the Hospice donations!

The sizes are just to give an idea

Just a little info on the fish
They are all my humble attempts on breeding
All were raised on brine shrimp/micro worms as initial food
Later main diet was self prepared food based on beef heart
They are getting live daphnia and cyclops + whiteworms
Plecos will eat cucumber, courgette and green peas
All will eat dry food
Guppies are breed for food and they are not of great colours
No diseases of course and they were recently treated for worms (just in case)
There will be minimum price on each bag (except donated stuff) but nothing like the shops prices ;)
To save time at the auction I'm putting some links with photos

 As I posted the original details I am getting all the queries :silly:

So I think I need to clarify a couple of things.

First, there are two ways to submits fish / dry goods for auction. If you want to donate the item and have all the sale price go to charity that is great, but you don't have to do that. Most items submitted will be sold on the basis that 15% of the sale price goes to Our Ladies Hospice and the bulk of the money goes to the seller. A couple of people thought they had to donate, you don't, you decide, just tell us when checking in your items on Sunday. Example items sells for €10, you get €8.50 charity get €1.50.

Secondly, I have had a few queries on why the tank size was limited to 24inches. That was for practical reasons and safety, the auction is upstairs and we didn't fancy people dragging big tanks upstairs, we didn't think the pub would be too happy either. You are welcome to bring larger tanks, but keep them in the car for viewing. Give the full details and measurements when you are checking in and the tank will be auctioned as normal.

Finally, If you "donate" an item and it does not sell do you need to collect it? Yes you do. All unsold items must be collected after the auction. If and item does not sell in the first auction it will be put up again for the second. However you do not have to wait until the second auction if you want to withdraw your item and bring it home.

If there are any other queries, please feel free to ask here or PM me and I will try to help.

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I also forgot to mention.....

I have heard from a few people that have not posted here that they are bringing fish and other dry goods. They haven't posted here in case they can't make it or don't catch the fish that they want etc.

But if they do come there are going to be lots more interesting fish and items for sale than the great stuff already listed so far.

I hope to get a list of my own up tomorrow.
