Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

red squirrel, wren, blackcap and mandarin are all there and there is a magpie on the roof with the heron. the skink (southern spain) may be correct, but i dont know myself (maybe ian can tell us). the robin is a baby just out of the nest so could well be female and you got your own name correct
not as good as last time kev :( . have another go after you have a sleep and put them in order.

kev. turnstone and raven correct but no common or herring gull and its not a blue heron. wheres valerie with the book? :)

murph. the mandarin was snapped in bushy park among the mallards and tuftys and if you attempted to kill one there, you would be chased by an angry mob of parents and kids. :)

dave. yes the baby robins can look like little thrushs and are extremely tame and will even land on the hand or shoulder.

i know that this type of topic is not to everyones taste, but it did take quite a while to put together and post up and i would have expected at least one or two responses at least encouraging the effort. i put this post up to try buck the trend of all these never ending selling and begging posts and would have expected at least some of the people i know to have made some response, even if only to crack a joke or ask a question.
i noticed on another post that somybody wrote "what have morals got to do with fishkeeping", well i think morals are very important and so are manners.
anyway, never mind lads, back to the selling. :(

It's called the erosion of ettiquette and manners, Schools no longer teach Civics and as a result, the only thing that matters nowadays is ME! I and MINE. I have met a good few of the Guys and a few of the Girls on this forum and their Kids are not the norm, the Parents have instructed or led their Kids by example and it is a pleasure to have any of them in My Home.

I enjoyed the post and showed up my ignorance by responding to it. I honestly thought there were no ravens in Ireland, now where did I get that from? :(

I think these posts give the Forum a bit of balance which is good for it.
